Hey,

I recently bought a new DVD player (NEC AD-7203) and I installed it on my pc and now I can't start my pc any more.
Every time it gives a blue screen which says there is an error in plug and play.
Now I get this information every time I start up the computer with or without the DVD player.

Does someone have an answer to my problem?

Is the NEC on a IDE cable by itself or is it sharing one with the hdd?

Did you check the connections?

Could you please tell us exactly what the error reads?

It is connected with sata, and i'm using windows xp.
Here is the message (translated from dutch)

There was a problem found. windows will be quit to prevend damage.

Plug and play has found an error in possibly caused by a damaged driver

if this is the first time reboot

check if the new hardware is installed in a good way.

if the problem keeps occuring, you will need to remove or shut of the new hardware.

for save mode press F8 during startup.

*** STOP: 0x000000CA (0x000000001, 0x89a01e30, 0x899dfc08, 0x00000000)

I already removed the player but still the error appears, and i tried starting in safe mode but it gives the same error.

When I looked up that NEC it showed that it is a IDE interface, so this couldn't be connected on the same IDE data cable if the hdd is a SATA drive. It would have to be either a ATA or a PATA to connect to a IDE cable.

Did you check your connections to make sure nothing came unplugged inside the case when you were installing the drive?

Can you start in safe mode?

NEC AD-7203 20x12xRAM Sata

I cant start in safe mode, my screen either turns black or gives the same blue screen.

That model is the AD-7203S, not the AD-7203 which you originally posted, there is a big difference between the two.

Edit: I'm just mixed the two topics that I've been working on, sorry. I have to leave for now, someone else will be here in about an hour to help you further, if not I'll be back in five hours.

I also installed XP again and it seems like its going to work (still installing)

I'll post again if it works or still isn't

Oke, so now this problem is fixed but i got a new one.
Also blue screen when i start up some of my games.
I cant read the message cause it restarts as soon as the screen pops up.
Does someone have a program which can scan my computer for this error?

EDIT:
I got the error message
It seems that a file called: afd.sys is causing the error.
Driver_irql_not_less_or_equal this is what it says in the top of the blue screen.

hope this is enough to fix it

I read you PM and didn't bother with what you had just posted, in your PM you indicated that you were in a restart cycle and couldn't boot up. What you have posted now doesn't not imply this.

You can stop the automatic restart feature which afterwards should allow for a error message to appear rather than restart. Please post this error back here.

Start> right click on My Computer> Properties> Advanced> Startup and Recovery. Under startup and Recovery click on Settings, uncheck the box in Automatically restart under System failure.

Another item to look at would be the Event Viewer. Look in the Event Viewer and see what errors are showing up at the time that this is happening. Each error will have its own date and time shown.

Start> right click on My Computer> Manage> Event Viewer.

On the right side of the page you will see the options Applications, Security, and Systems, double click on Systems. There are eight columns on this page, the three that you will want are Type, Date, Time, and Event.

The errors will appear in the Type column, they are red dots with a white X inside of them.

Warnings will appear as a yellow trinangle with an exclamation mark inside.

When you see an error, double click on it and see what the description is.

Please post the error code/s found in the Event column and the descriptions back in this topic.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.
