I was working on a windows xp home computer with a copy of trend micro internet security 2008/7 installed on it. When I uninstalled that with the tool in c:/programfiles/trendmicro it killed the networking. I tried netsh etc and a repair install, neither has had any luck.

An unknown device which I assume is the trend micro firewall is listed and I cannot uninstall the device. Any network adapters installed give driver errors on installation and code 28 afterward as well as not showing up in network connections. I also cannot uninstall the network adapters short of removing them from the system. The fire wire networking connection shows up in network connections and as connected, which it is not.

out of ideas here really, looking for suggestions.

did you look in program files to see if trend is uninstalled
after you uninstalled the internet security
you should also remove trends folder from program files

you can delete this too

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TrendMicro

The folder is empty, don't know about the reg key, activation wizard kicked in and is saying it has a pirated key now, so.... may just do a clean install with the mce sticker on the back instead of the one in use. I am curious as to why it freaked out like this.

check to see if your infected before you reinstall
run malwarebytes
to clear up any possibility of infection
its a great program and its getting better than AVG7.5 Antispyware
download it from here

http://www.majorgeeks.com/Malwarebytes_Ant...ware_d5756.html

dont post it in this forum
put logfile here (this forum)

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/103/am-i-infected-what-do-i-do/

then run highjackthis and post it in the proper forum

would, but the activation wizard for xp kicked in after the repair install; it didn't look infected from the startup items previously though. If I blank the activation wizard i'll post some logs if there is anything weird.
