The only way to change the key (legally) that I know of...is to do a repair install and use the right key (original key for the system).

You can use a CD from anyone's XP Home as long as it is same version...but you should use your license to make the install a legal one.

I suggest you use a tool like SIW to see what license/key is currently reflected on your system.

SIW Download - http://www.gtopala.com/siw-download.html

Your license will appear under Licenses  on the display screen.

When you installed XP it should have asked for the Product ID number. What kind of disk did you use from your friends computer?
Are you having problems with activation? What other problems are you having?
