Hello,

There is a forum that has been flooded by spambots (members called Viagra, BuyViagraOnline, ChatAboutSex and dozens and dozens more etc. ). The problem started after an angry member warned the administrator that the site will soon be facing difficulties. Spams are now introducing themselves as newbies ... I don't think that the administrator knows what to do about it and he's not receiving any help from the guys who are responsible of the site's maintenance. How should we act to stop them?

P.S. I hope that I haven't posted this topic in the wrong forum as I usually do, sorry about that :flowers:

Not sure. But I think there is Meta tags that can prevent bots from surfing the site? Then again we would want Google to seek information in turn. this will end up stopping the good bots from seeking information

Disabling registration might help til the problem is fixed. What forum software is it? I did not see it mentioned here. One might also enable email activation. That would make it so the member is not validated until the validation link is clicked. Bots cannot respond to a validation email.

Goldwyn.. quoting garmanma does not answer my question. I am confused how you know the forum software mesmerized is talking about. They never say.. garmanma does not say either. I am confused also because in a previous post in this topic you say you know nothing of forum software, yet you now say you are running a forum? I am even more confused.

Mesmerized, I am sorry if I seem to be interupting your topic. I do hope you get control there.

Okay. Im not sure what your quetion is. but here go's I have a much older version of this board that I run. The newer version have newer settings and such. How I know this. Once apon a time I some how got admin status with another site that had an updated version. I was able to tinker within the site's internal workings. Kinda neat. I logged out fearing to mess someting up they caught on and removed me from admin status
