Hi, I usually run my computer with 2 monitors. One plugged into the vga port on my graphics card, and the other plugged into the dvi port with an adapter. Sometimes when i turn on my computer, the screen is black with no signal, but the sound is working. Usually just unplug some wires, restart my computer a few times and its back up working fine. This time, however, doing this did not work. Right now I have my system running with only one monitor, and if i plug in the adapter, with or without the other monitor plugged into it, both screens get no signal. Does anyone know what the problem is? I think it may be a broken adapter, but I'm not entirely sure.

If i buy a vga splitter, will i be able to use 2 monitors as usual? (how will the computer know that there is a splitter cable plugged in?)

Thanks for all your help. =)

Seeing on how you've been unplugging it a lot, I would check for bent pins in the plug. VGA-DVI adapters can do strange things and don't work well in certain setups.
You can use a splitter, but you will see the exact same screen on both monitors at once

Having grandkids is God's way of giving you a 2nd chance because you were too busy working your butt off the 1st time around

ok. I ordered another dvi avg adapter, but this time a startech one. If the screen goes blank when i plug this one in, then I'm not sure what the problem is.
