I have noticed that when I play DVDs on my computer that the sound is crackling. This only happens when I play a DVD. I have tried to play them in WinDVD and recently in Windows Media Player with the same problem. It is so much of a problem that I really can't watch a DVD because it is so annoying. Music files play off of my speakers without the crackling as well. Anyone have any idea what is wrong here?

This has to be some kind of record for times viewed without a reply. I guess nobody knows what I'm talking about.

My best guess would be the DVD player itself.
You don't have problems with video files? Just DVD?
Check that the audio cable is hooked up properly.
It runs from the back of the DVD to the motherboard.
When you say music files play, are they on the hard drive or
playing from a CD in the DVD player?

It looks like that was it. Although I'm not sure what wire was what, I tightened them all and now the player works much better. I have also realized that dorm rooms are entirely too dusty. Thanks for your help.
