I have just rescued my PC from a serious problem....
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/173181/boot-problem-cant-find-locally-stored-profile/

Data has been salvaged, and I'm trying to get things (software) working again.
Logging in this evening after a correct shutdown, my Comodo Pro personal firewall would not start:

Cpres: Error OxO: failed for C:\ Documents & Settings\ Application Data\Comodo\Personal Firewall\Data\ResFiles\btn_apply_s.bmp

then:

An error has occured while initializing the COMODO Firewall Pro.

I am now running without firewall.
Re-starting crappy disabled windows firewall just in case.

OS: Windows XP Pro
Antivir: AVG Free
Recently cleaned machine with both Antivir and DrWeb

Any suggestions or help to get the firewall back up, please?

Hi Mike, perhaps best to start a ticket at Comodo or ask in their forum. They have good support.
Comodo Support home
Also if you get a solution youcould post it here to help amother as it does appear we do not have a solution for you.

thank you for your reply boopme !!!

I found a way around the problem... simple and effective:

-> Uninstall and re-install Comodo.

My version of Comodo was not the latest: CFP_Setup_English_2.4.18.184
I tried re-installing this first, but with the same failure messages.

I went to their site and downloaded: CFP_Setup_3.0.25.378_XP_Vista_x32
Installing now went fine.

The disadvantage with this, is that Comodo has to re-learn all the rules...

(also I am now having problems with another application since re-installing Comodo. ScanSoft OmniPage SE 4.0
I have posted that on a seperate thread: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/173628/scansoft-omnipage-se-40/ ).

Hope this information may help others

Comodo has stopped the 3.8 updates because of problems. They hope to have a new update out this week that will fix them.

Hi Tom,

The link seems to go to the wrong topic, however the database has been replaced today with 990 and should now update as usual.

That seems to be the virus database. The link goes to posts from people who have had difficulties with the newest CIS release. The problems with v3.8.64739.471 have been not fixed and there in no new update for it yet.
.471 crashed my computer (BSOD) and others as well, plus numerous other problems.

Hi Tom,

Your link seems to go to a topic by gibran about scripts for reporting configurations, rather than the bug thread.

Sorry you had problems with the program update, but for many of us it works fine.

The database update pause you reported in this topic, was only because of converting the signatures to the new format and the database has been converted completely now. There are still some more signatures to be added in the next few days which will be automatic.

Hey Mike
I see what you are saying, it does go to a page with an old topic from 03-18-08, but right above that are "Firewall Help" and "Install/Setup/Configuration Help" that have plenty of posts from people having trouble with the latest update. Sorry for not being clear.
Tom

Edit: Now Comodo is saying that next CIS update (to fix the numerous problems) will be this/next week.

Yes it should be tomorrow. Most problems are on 64 bit installations.

That's right, most, but not all. I have Vista Home Premium, 32 bit and had to go back to v3.5 (two updates back).
