Hello kitdritt and welcome to the BC forums. After reviewing your log I see a few items that require our attention. Please print these directions and then proceed with the following steps in order.

Step #1

Download CCleaner and install it but do not run it yet.

Step #2

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer.
  • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the boot menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
Step #3

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = about:blank
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ctrsvoxphgz] C:\WINDOWS\System32\zeauhmy.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [snpstd] C:\WINDOWS\vsnpstd.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Qtime] C:\WINDOWS\shch.exe /i
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinAmpAgent] C:\WINDOWS\winagent.exe /i
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [checkrun] c:\windows\system32\elitexkt32.exe
O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {6685509E-B47B-4f47-8E16-9A5F3A62F683} - file://C:\Program Files\Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker\Sy350\Tp350\scri350a.htm (file missing) (HKCU)

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Step #4

WinXP Show Hidden files/delete files

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Find the following files/folders and delete them (don't worry if they are already gone):C:\WINDOWS\System32\zeauhmy.exe
C:\WINDOWS\vsnpstd.exe
C:\WINDOWS\shch.exe
C:\WINDOWS\winagent.exe
c:\windows\system32\elitexkt32.exe
C:\Program Files\Ebates_MoeMoneyMaker\ <--folder

Step #5

Start CCleaner and click on the Run Cleaner button in the lower right-hand corner. When it is finished close CCleaner.

Step #6

Reboot you computer normally and run at least 2 of the following on-line virus scans:Trend Micro Housecall
BitDefender On-Line Virus Scan
Panda ActiveScan
Make sure that you choose "fix" or "clean".

Step #7

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post your new log file back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.

OT
I do not respond to PM's requesting help. That's what the forums are here for. Please use them so that others may benefit from your questions and the responses you receive.

Hi kitdritt. Yes, IM programs are a breeding ground for infections these days. Yuo've got the old one back and some new ones too. Let's run some basic scans and see what they turn up. Please proceed with the following steps in order.

Step #1

Run On-line virus scans

Please run at least 2 of the following on-line virus scans:Trend Micro Housecall
BitDefender On-Line Virus Scan
Panda ActiveScan
Make sure that you choose "fix" or "clean".

Step #2

Run Spybot Search & Destroy

Download, install, update and run a scan with Spybot S&D:
  • Download and Install Spybot Search & Destroy, accepting the Default Settings.
  • In the Menu Bar at the top of the Spybot window you will see 'Mode'. Make certain that 'default mode' has a check mark beside it.
  • Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D
  • Click the button to ‘Search for Updates’ and then download and install all available Updates.
  • Next click the button ‘Check for Problems’
  • When Spybot is complete, it will be showing ‘RED’ entries bold 'Black' entries and ‘GREEN’ entries in the window.
  • Make certain there is a check mark beside all of the RED entries ONLY.
  • Choose ‘Fix Selected Problems’ and allow Spybot to fix the RED entries.
  • REBOOT to complete the scan and clear memory.
Step #3

Run AdAware SE

Download, install, update, configure and run a scan with Ad-aware SE:
  • Download and Install AdAware SE Personal, keeping the default options. However, some of the settings will need to be changed before your first scan.
  • Close ALL windows except Ad-Aware SE.
  • Click on the‘world’ icon at the top right of the Ad-Aware SE window and let AdAware SE update the reference list for the adware and malware.
  • Once the update is finished click on the ‘Gear’ icon (second from the left at the top of the window) to access the preferences/settings window:
    • In the ‘General’ window make sure the following are selected in green:
      • Under Safety:
        • Automatically save log-file
      • Automatically quarantine objects prior to removal
      • Safe Mode (always request confirmation)
    • Under Definitions:
      • Prompt to update outdated definitions - set the number of days
  • Click on the ‘Scanning’ button on the left and select in green:
    • Under Driver, Folders & Files:
      • Scan Within Archives
    • Under Select drives & folders to scan:
      • choose all hard drives
    • Under Memory & Registry: all green
      • Scan Active Processes
      • Scan Registry
      • Deep Scan Registry
      • Scan my IE favorites for banned URL’s
      • Scan my Hosts file
  • Click on the ‘Advanced’ button on the left and select in green:
    • Under Shell Integration:
      • Move deleted files to recycle bin
    • Under Logfile Detail Level: all green
      • include addtional object information
      • DESELECT - include negligible objects information
      • include environment information
    • Under Alternate Data Streams:
      • Don't log streams smaller than 0 bytes
      • Don't log ADS with the following names: CA_INOCULATEIT
  • Click the ‘Tweak’ button and select in green:
    • Under ‘Scanning Engine’:
      • Unload recognized processes during scanning
      • Scan registry for all users instead of current user only
    • Under ‘Cleaning Engine’:
      • Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot
    • Under Log Files:
      • Include basic Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
      • Include additional Ad-aware SE settings in logfile
      • Please do not check: Include Module list in logfile
  • Click on ‘Proceed’ to save the settings.
  • Click ‘Start’
  • Choose 'Perform Full System Scan'
  • DESELECT "Search for negligible risk entries", as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.
  • Click ‘Next’ and Ad-Aware SE will scan your hard drive(s) with the options you have selected and clean automatically.
  • If Ad-Aware SE finds bad entries, you will receive a list of what it found in the window
  • Save the log file when it asks and then click ‘Finish’
  • REBOOT to complete the removal of what Ad-Aware SE found.
Step #4

Next, let's clean up the temporary folders:
  • Download CleanUp! and install.
  • Start CleanUp! and click the CleanUp! button. Let it run to completion.
Step #5

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Post your new log file back here as a relpy to this topic and I will review it.

DO NOT MAKE ANY CHANGES OR CLICK "FIX CHECKED" UNTIL WE CHECK THE LOG, AS SOME OF THE FILES ARE LEGITIMATE AND VITAL TO THE FUNCTION OF YOUR COMPUTER

Hi there sorry i'm so slow but I've managed the 2nd set of instructions.

I've noticed a couple of things;even when I'm running the scans there are still pop ups and as if i've done a search apparently i gamble !!!!
If i use mozilla its way better in this respect than explorer.
But daughters MSN wont work on mozilla.
Should i try to put msn on moz and delete it on explorer change emails whatever ....will these things still find me ?
What stuff can i put in place so these diallers cant get me ?
Much appreciated yet again.

Hi kitdritt. We have a few items to clean up so please print these directions and then proceed with the following steps in order.

Step #1

Important
Your copy of HijackThis needs to be in a folder of it's own. If it is run from Temporary folders the backups and HijackThis itself could be accidentally deleted if the Temporary folders are cleaned. If it is run from the desktop then the backup files and folders can clutter up the desktop and be accidentally deleted. If it is run from inside a compressed file then the backups are not created at all.
  • Please open My Computer
  • Double-click on Local Disk (C:)
  • Click on the File menu, point to New and then click on Folder. Name the folder 'HijackThis' or 'HJT'.
  • Unzip to or copy and paste HijackThis.exe to the new folder.

Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Connection Wizard,ShellNext = wmplayer.exe //ICWLaunch
O2 - BHO: CDllBho Object - {5A5B6916-ED71-4531-8018-E792DD44156E} - C:\WINDOWS\hgfhf.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [checkrun] C:\windows\system32\elitexkt32.exe

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Step #4

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Find the following files/folders and delete them (don't worry if they are already gone):C:\WINDOWS\hgfhf.dll
C:\windows\system32\elitexkt32.exe (and any other files whose names are similar to elite***32.exe

Step #5

Start CleanUp! and click on the CleanUp! button. Let it run to completion. It may take a few minutes depending on the size of your hard drive so be patient.

Step #6

Download CWShredder

Download Cwshredder.exe and save it to a folder of its own. Start the program and click on the Check for Update button. If an update is available then download and install it.

Run CWShredder
  • Click "Fix ->" and click "OK" at the prompt.
  • CWShredder will scan and clean your system of CWS files.
  • Click "Next->" and then "Exit".
Step #7

Something seems to be keeping those entires in place so let's check for some hidden files. Please do the following:

Download rkfiles.zip and unzip it to its own permanent folder.

Important! Reboot in SAFE MODE !!

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer in Safe Mode.
  • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
Locate the rkfiles.bat file and double-click it to run it. It will start scanning your computer and could take a little while so be patient. When the DOS window closes, reboot back to normal mode.

Post the contents of C:\log.txt back here and I will review it when it comes in.

OT
I do not respond to PM's requesting help. That's what the forums are here for. Please use them so that others may benefit from your questions and the responses you receive.

Hi kitdritt. Yes there is a bad file that is hiding that we need to remove. Please print these directions and then proceed with the following steps in order.

Step #1

Navigate to c:\winnt\system32\ and search for these files (they might or might not be there):shawn_1.da0
shawn_1.cfg

If you find them we will take care of them in Step #5.

Step #2
Download the Pocket Killbox.

Unzip the contents of KillBox.zip to a convenient location and then double-click on KillBox.exe to launch the program.

Step #3

Highlight the lines below and press the Ctrl key and the C key at the same time to copy them to the clipboard:C:\WINDOWS\system32\shawn_1.dll
Now go to the Killbox application and click on the File menu and then the Paste from Clipboard menu item. In the Full Path of File to Delete box you should see the first file. If you dropdown that box you should see the rest of them. Make sure that they are all there.

Click on the Delete on Reboot option and then click on the red circle with a white 'X' in to to delete the files. Killbox will tell you that all listed files will be deleted on next reboot, click YES. When it asks if you would like to Reboot now, click YES. If you get a "PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!" message then just restart manually.

You system will reboot now.

After rebooting, you could get alot of error messages when applications start because these files were linked to Explorer.exe. That is normal.

Step #4

Now open Internet Explorer and go to the eTrust Antivirus Web Scanner and perform a scan. This will repair the applicaiton errors that you are receiving and clean up the rest of the infection.

Step #5

If you found any of the files listed in Step #1 then do the following, otherwise skip to Step #6.
  • Type or copy/paste each file into the top Full Path of File to Delete field one at a time.
  • Click the Delete File button which looks like a red stop sign with a white 'X' in it.
  • If you have not entered the last file click No at the Pending Operations prompt; after the last file is entered click Yes and allow your computer to reboot.
Step #6

Important! Reboot in SAFE MODE !!

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer in Safe Mode.
  • As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
Locate the rkfiles.bat file and double-click it to run it. It will start scanning your computer and could take a little while so be patient. When the DOS window closes, reboot back to normal mode.

Post the contents of the new C:\log.txt file back here in the next step.

Step #7

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post your new log file and a new log from rkfiles.bat back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.

Hi there totaly and utterly fed up with this  :flowers: just can't spend my life messing with it its taking over i'm not actually joking i am now striking up conversations about this prob to find i am being overtaken!
Followed everything BUT safe mode can't do it will get a kid at school to show me stioll get loads of writing then nothing. just dead. anyway fired up put on explorer just to see and before i could even get up bp comps derbiz pops up microsoft spots it but there it was . NOTHING touches it. Should I just wipe this thing or should i put msn on Mozilla because this thing is definitely only on explorer. CAN'T EXPLAIN MY FRUSTRATION I am also worried as we intend to get a new computer this is my lap top will it follow us??

Hi kitdritt. Not being able to boot up in Safe Mode is definitely a problem. You won't get rid of this infection without being able to do so.

Let's look for some additional files.

  • Click OK.
Open Notepad and copy/paste the text from the quotebox below into the new document:

dir C:\WINDOWS\System32\elite*.exe /a h > files.txt notepad files.txt

Save the document to your desktop as findfile.bat and close Notepad. Locate the findfile.bat file on your desktop and double-click on it to run it. Notepad should open up with some information in it.

Post the results of the findfile.bat and I will review it when it comes in.

Cheers.
