I just installed Open Office (the file is OOo_2.4.1_Win32Intel_install_wJRE_en-US.exe) on Windows XP Home. Earlier today I installed Java 6 update 7 from the offline installation file. The first thing Open Office did after extracting was to install the older version of Java, update 4.
