I have ff3. When I bought the computer I installed it. I regret not attempting to install 2.

when I click on the ff icon I get a progress bar that says installing update. Then an error message comes up over that:
The update could not be installed. Please make sure there are no other copies of Firefox running on your computer, and then restart Firefox to try again.

Needless to say I've no other copies. What's weird is that the other user on this computer does not have that problem, though he has FF also as his browser.

FF lovers, what say you about FF3?

Thanks

Hello Sharon,

I have had FF3 since it was released and have kept it up to date with its updates and have had no problems at all with it.

The event viewer may give some more information on why it isn't working.

1. Click Start select run
2. Type eventvwr.exe
3. Press enter
4. Search through the groups for errors and warnings.
5. Double click on each error and or warning.
6. Locate the copy to clipboard button, Posted Image (under the two arrows)
7. Let us know what you find. (paste the results)
Regards,

Alan.

Now I'm at my other computer and will be all week, so I will try that this weekend. I'll post back then.

Thanks, Alan!

I obviously need to learn how to read the event viewer. Think I'll post about that somewhere else! *genius!*

Anyway, what if anything can you see?

Thanks..oh, I could NOT find copy to clipboard under the 2 arrows on the event viewer.
Is that the same as copying to notepad?

oooooooookay. I did learn how to read the event viewer. Both notices said no user action required. so, I can forget about the warning and the error, right?

Still, why do I continue to get the update bar and same message as above?

Which error messages say no user action required?

all three of the warnings in the above said no user action required, two of them have to do with the dhcp and one has to do with Win32K.

So, really, they're not errors, they're warnings.
And I may have a non-problem here.
Thanks Alan for your attention, it's always appreciated.
Carry on.

The event logs look OK, there are some entries that shouldn't be there, but they shouldn't be causing this problem. If you open the start menu and expand all programs select firefox(safe mode) If you can get the browser to start, type about:crashes into the address bar and press enter. Do you see any reports?
Regards,

Alan.

At this stage I would remove FF and then download and install the latest version from their site.
