Yea...so here's my first post...I have been working on this all day. Best part is that I paid $60 a month ago to Mcafee for their online help! And look where it got me..oh and I don't have any of the systems disks because they were stolen. If that counts for anything, dell is supposedly sending me a new one.

hey! I didn't know you were around here. That's cool. I am so happy to finally be talking to someone about this!
Well, for about a month or so now my computer has been behaving really strangely. It started with the resolution randomly changing, my lap top crashing, and now it is extremely slow. I have spoken to the people at tell and McAfee a number of times since my computer is my life at school. They only useful information I received was to download Spy Bot and Ad-aware. That made things better for about a week, but then things started to go rapidly down hill. I came here and downloaded a few more programs and found lssa.exe. When I deleted it a window popped up and shut down my computer. I can't figure out how to get rid of it! I have Windows XP home edition with SP2 and I use automatic windows update. Still, nothing seemed to make a difference. I was afraid to do anything drastic since all of my operating CDs were damaged. Also, if anyone has any insight as to what I should do, I would GREATLY appreciate it!

Does this file lssa.exe still exist on your computer? What does the popup say?

Yeah the file is still there. I used sysinternals to see it. When I click on "kill process" the pop up says that the system is shutting down and gives me a minute to save anything that I need. It says it was started by NT AUTHORITY/SYSTEM. I have used the downloads for windows, but it is still there.

Ok your spelling the file wrong: its lsass.exe

That file is valid and should not be shut down. Why are you trying to get rid of it?

Sorry about the spelling. I was really tired.

From all the stuff I was reading I got the impression that it was something bad..I guess not,

Thanks for your help!
