Windows Defender eternally alerts me, "This agent [Bonjour] scans software just before it runs. You are alerted if the software has a high potential for harming your computer."

Given Bonjour's announced purpose -- detection of hardware on a network -- why would it perform such an irrelevant task?

I just uninstalled the Bonjour part. If you don't need it, iTunes works perfectly fine without it.
Maybe it scans for the hardware drivers or settings, because it would be quicker than scanning for hardware.
