Hey,
My DVD drive wont work, it does not pick up any type of disk. Yet when i look at it under my computer it shows its in good working order...

Also, even my CD drive wont work with DVD's? It picks up all CD's and CD-rom's but no DVD's.
I think the computer used to do DVD's though.
Its a 2000 XP home.

The DVD drive does not work, guess it must be broke? The CD drive works, i just was not sure if it should read the DVD's or not... Its maybe 6 years old? Its an XP.

How do i go about replacing the DVD drive?

Yeah the CD drive will not read DVDs. Before replacing the DVD drive I would test a few different DVDs .Maybe you have done that already. I would also pull the drive out look at the model and look up and see if there are any firmware updates or drive updates.
Also look in your device manager:
Start>Control Panel>System>Hardware tab then click on device manager. Under the displayed items select DVD/CD-ROM drive find the DVD drive and see if there are any red X`s or yellow question marks beside the drive. If you double click the drive it will also tell you if the drive is working properly.

What is the model of the optical drive.

If you don't know, you can download SIW, it will list it.

If you downloaded SIW, go down the Hardware list till you come to Storages Devices, click on it, and your optical drive should be listed there.
