Hi again,
I am trying to help my in laws out with a strange computer problem. They have two computer wired up to a router. My father in laws computer, Windows XP, is the one having the problem. When he goes to the VERIZON WEB MAIL home page and try to check his mail, he trys to log in via his email address and password and nothin happens. The page sort of just refreshes itself. NOTE: He can check it via out loox express, but for some reason, he likes to check it on the web page. Just FYI, if it on the other computer, he can access his e-mail via Verizon's web page. Anyway, I have deleted temp. files, cookies and all that stuff and just can't get it to work. Any thoughts, advice? THANKS!

Hey

How about uninstalling and re installing the web browser? Or if it worked before, a system restore to when it worked?

I am not sure of when it worked before. I did uninstall and re-install the browser. Same old problem.

Some things you might try. Check to see if he is still logged in to the email account on the other computer. Update Java (coffee cup icon in the Control Panel). Then go to Add/Remove and remove ALL older versions of Java.
Security settings for IE may have been changed. Reset to medium for the internet.

You do not mention what, if any, programs you have run on the problematic computer to check for possible infections?

He can check it via out loox express, but for some reason, he likes to check it on the web page.

I know someone who also does this too...it is his way of checking for spam etc

True, here are the programs that I have run in order to "clean up the system"

1) CC Cleaner
2) MBAM
3) Spybot
4) Avg-FREE NOTE: Avg will sometime shows a message in ref. to an open cookie?
I have no idea what it means.
5) IOBITS Disk Defrag.

Thanks again! Any and all advice is appreciated!

you could try a scan from superantispyware ; instructions http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...st&p=959604

plus post the malawarebytes log for the team to check over?or do a fresh scan following these instructions
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...st&p=959453

it is kinda helpful to eliminate infection as the cause of the problem

PLUS try this little stand alone program http://vil.nai.com/VIL/stinger/

its exe is http://download.nai.com/products/mcafee-av...nger1001602.exe and the most up to date set of definitions for this program;I recommend for this one you ensure temp internet files folder is EMPTY

Try those and let us know what turns up?
