Hi,

Yesterday, I got a Windows message telling me that Windows Search Protocol Host had stopped working, just out of the blue. This message kept popping up every 10 or so seconds, and it would lag my computer. I'm running Vista 64-bit. The computer became unresponsive so I had to restart by pressing the reset button. Upon booting back into Windows, it sort of hung: the desktop and all my startup programs loaded fine, and I could move the mouse and click on the icons and start button, but no programs would start. Even restart did not illicit a response, so I had to press the reset button again. I booted into safe mode (with no problems) and tried to run Avira, but it was not responsive. I then tried to run SUPERAntiSpyware and it came up with a message about a component not able to run in 64-bit mode or something (when it worked fine before the virus).

I attempted to uninstall both programs, but both installers came up with CRC errors, no doubt due to the virus infecting them. I have since redownloaded the installers and uninstalled them. I then installed NOD32, updated virus definitions, and did an in-depth scan. The results showed every single .exe file I had was infected with the Tenga.Gen virus.
I did an online scan with Panda ActiveScan, and it confirmed this: 3871 .exe files were infected with Tenga.A virus.

I read somewhere that the Tenga virus injects ~3KB of data into every .exe file it finds. I let NOD32 clean the files, but I canceled it and restored the files from the quarantine because the cleaned .exe files (program installers) no longer worked. I wanted to be absolutely sure that these files are a lost cause, as it would be a pain to lose them all.

Oh, and right now, periodically, I get a dialog for "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" saying:
"Runtime Error!

Program: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Dll.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information."

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Here is my HiJackThis log:

I apologize for the very long delay. We have a huge backlog of HijackThis Logs to handle and it has been taking us greater time than normal to get caught up. If you are still having a problem, and want us to analyze your information, please reply to this topic stating that you still need help and I will work with you on resolving your computer problems. If your problem has been resolved, please post a reply letting us know so we can close your topic.

Unfortunately, if I do not hear back from you within 5 days, I will be forced to close your topic. If you still need help after I have closed your topic, feel free to create a new one.

Once again, I apologize for the delay in responding to this topic.
