Hi. I am helping a friend with setting up her wireless network.

She has comcast internet.

Her desktop and router is upstairs and she wants to set up wireless internet, for her two laptops.

Now she has an older Compaq that does not have a pci wireless card.

But she does have a Linksys router.

Can anyone advise on whether she can have wireless even though her desktop doesnt
have the wireless card?

Any guidance to make this as easy as possible would be great!

Thanks in advance.

Clueless.

Hello cluelessnh and welcome.

In order to have wireless access set up you will need a wireless router and all the systems must have wireless enabled. If a system doesn't have a wireless adaptor then that system wont be wireless enabled.

Instead of purchasing a wireless card for laptop/desktop, you could purchase a USB wireless adaptor that will give the system wireless capability and can be removed and used on another system if needed.
Regards,

Alan.

If the desktop is the old compaq and it is in the same room as the router you can just use a wired connection.
