Is there anything I need to uninstall/change on my laptop as I am purchasing a new router or is it just a matter of installing/setting up the new router as with the previous one?

If you are sure your previous network connection was via a router and not just a modem then you shouldn't need to do anything else.
What is the make & model of your old and new network devices?
