Hello folks,
I just joined and of course I have a problem that I cant seem to figure out.

I have a machine that is connected to a small network. I have a network drive mapped and every time I double-click to open the network drive the 'my Documents' folder opens up instead. I have also noticed that when I right-click the network drive there are some invalid characters on the right-click menu that start with ?? (eg: ??2, ???3, ????4).

I have norton antivirus 2008 installed, I have my explorer set to view hidden files and folders and dispay hiddon operating system files and performed a full scan which results in nothing being found. According the the antivirus software I have a clean system. I'm stuck, does anyone out there have any ideas what is going on and how to resolve it?

Thanks in advance..

thanks guys, I'm actually familiar with the problems those other links try to address and this is not that. Definitely a different issue...the quest continues.

Do you have the appropriate permissions (on the physical system that the mapped drive resides on) to use the mapped drive? Is this a workgroup or a domain?

Try making a new account with the exact name and password of an administrator account from the other machine (the one that the mapped drive is on). Then reboot your computer, log into the new account and see if you can access the mapped drive normally.

In workgroups this is called account mirroring - and what it does is lets you use the permissions of an administrator when accessing the mapped drive. In most cases (on a workgroup) you're working with the level of permissions that the Guest account has - so this trick will allow you to see if that's the probem.
