I can't seem to predict when XP Pro SP2 will let me move a folder from SharedDocs\My Videos
to C:\ and when it won't! I don't get it. If I'm Owner don't I own it already?

Sometimes I can just grab the folder that I copied from another machine and placed in My Videos and just
drag it with the Left Mouse Button into another folder on C:\ and it just moves it by changing the directory entries. Then sometimes when I do that, it copies all the files!! Well with video files that's pretty slow!!

Anyone have a clue? Seems to be no rhyme or reason to it.

Hello MilesAhead,

I'm not absolutely sure, but some of the phrases in your problem description seem to indicate that this might be a variation of the "XP + mouse movement + mouse buttons + keyboard keystrokes" behavior described in the following post. The post deals with the unexpected copying of files when trying to delete them, but I thought the same (or a similar) principle might apply with respect to moving files/folders.

Nope. I'm only dragging one folder with the left moust button. It copies to the
desination folder instead of moving via altering the directory entry in the file system.

If I use TeraCopy(it is Not set as the default handler) instead and use the right mouse
button and select TeraMove it still copies. Must be some permission thing. It acts as if the
shared folder is on a different partition, which it isn't.

I know what you are talking about... the flinch when you drag and you get
file(2).txt or whatever. Another thing entirely.

Seems like it's strictly an explorer issue. If I do a 'move' command in the console it works as expected.

This must have come up before.
