I tried opening in internet explorer and in firefox but I can't get into certain sites: the error message reads: Internet Explorer can't show webpage. Sometimes it showed an error saying the the DNS cache couldn't read the name or something to this effect. Sometimes it allowed me to enter the site but I couldn't move from the site's home page to other pages without getting those error messages. I checked the advanced options on the tools menu of internet Explorer and made sure the security SSL and TLS settings were checked. It got me into the site but when I later logged off and tried going there again, same errors. I tried turning off the safe search feature on Google to see if that would do anything, and again, I got in, but then later, I couldn't again. Same error messages. I tried accessing the site not from the URL but from doing a search and clicking from the search results, but again, it had the same error message:

Can't open webpage. Most probable causes: You're not connected to the internet, There is a problem with the website, It is possible that the address wasn't spelled correctly. You can try to diagnose the connection. (Which I did and it found no problem). Your problem could be related to a series of problems such as: you've lost connection to the internet (no), The website is temporarily unavailable, it can't access the DNS. The DNS doesn't have a entrance on list for the domain of the website

I tried to restore my computer to an earlier time but it won't go. The xp error message states that it couldn't complete the restoration.
I scanned for viruses, adware, spyware, etc. Nothing.
I used another computer, a laptop and the same thing happened, but this showed an error message that said in the titlebar window of Internet Explorer:

Have you power cycled your modem and router if you have one?

Chewy,
if you mean by powercycling the modem, turning the power off then on again, yes, I've done that too. The problem is on only some sites and some times.

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.exe

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter
This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

**If the tool fails to launch from the Desktop, please move SmitfraudFix.exe directly to the root of the system drive (usually C:), and launch from there.
