hi my house has a cable modem.. and i run on the PC upstairs on a wireless router..

the internet comes in through the wall... plugs into the modem... from the modem it goes to my dads PC and to the router for my PC upstairs

my dad is turning the modem off and stupid times and i cant access internet... i wondered if there is a way to by-pass the cable modem and go straight from the wall, to the router... or maybe i need a new cable lead or something? as the access point from the wall wont fit into the router atm...

i have a motorola surfboard modem and a linksys router.. ty

If you are running your machine from the wireless router you are at the mercy of the router. Either way, even if you ran a cable to your machine it still has to go through the modem that feeds the router.
