About a week ago a message window started popping up. It was titled "HOSTS file changed" and in the box read, "The following websites are blocked by your host file:" and then it lists a bunch of files like www.oo8k.com, etc. At the end of the message it asks, "Do you want to edit the hosts file?"

I consider myself computer knowledgeable but that is about it. I have never messed with the Registry or delved into any files that might foul up my computer. (I use my computer in my business - I do online newsletters for home-based travel agents - so having it working is real important.)

This problem is driving me mad. The window pops up, I have to eliminate by answering NO, and then it pops up again 2 or 3 minutes later.

I'm running Windows XP Pro, using Firefox as my browser, and MS Office 2003 for word processing, spreadsheet and email.

I'm afraid if I try to edit the hosts file I'll screw something up and put myself in the tank. Can anyone help?

Thanks, Louis. I'll have to work on this late tonight but trust me, I'll read it, re-read it, and read it a third time before I do anything. I'll let you know how it goes.
