Over 4 yrs with the same PC, I have been lucky and never obtained a virus like this. I usually help my friends clean their PCs and understand how to remove these things. This one is bad. I have never experienced a virus which randomly does the following:

Boot up with various strange BSODs
After bootup I can not run any type of installed Virus/Spyare/malware Prgs. The def will not update or if they do they require a reboot but the PC will not shut down. When I do a soft or cold reboot the def update never takes.
While booted a random BSOD.
I try to access the web and I can surf but when I download and try to install the various Virus/Malwar/Spyware Prgs the virus will not let me install them..they say corrupted files etc...
Random pop ups. Reg file missing, teatimer is corrupt, screens setting snap to 800x600.

FYI The below is not from 2.0.2 it is from 1.99.1 My PC will not let me DL and Install the newest version.

Also this is my Home PC and I am at work right now. So anything you can suggest I start with will be great!

Sir,

I have been trying to run COMOFIX at least 3 times.

Various things are happening

Popup windows during the first try which said CF27949.exe and Vfind.exe are corrupt and unreadable. Grep.cfexe caused an error.
Then as it pops up and says preparing log report it goes to the BSOD with a win32k.sys message.

2nd time I pulled my Internet cable and booted and ran combofix and it said it ws corrupt so I double clicked the icon again and it got to the preparing log file and I waited 30+ mins and no output so I soft booted.

Next Various BSOD with various messages:

Driver_IQRL_NOT_Lesser_or_equl
Page fault not in nonpaged area.

I have tried to boot with and without internet at least 6 times and within secs BSOD at boot up or right when windows desktop appears.

Any ideas?

Should I try to run combofix in Safe mode without internet?

PC using friends laptop right now

I really do not see anything here. The only thing of minor concern is this entry:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [UltimateBuddy] C:\Program Files\UltimateBuddy\UltimateBuddy.exe

This is adware and you may want to uninstall this from the Add or Remove Programs list.

Not good.

I ran adware and it find something called webcom.webbho.1 and locks up. I can not remove it.

Everything else on the PC is running except when I try to install the main online free virus scans, or try to update AVG defs. Everything related to Virus or spyware detection is shutdown or I get kicked to the BSOD.

Any other thoughts?

Anything else I can run?

Coop

The UB is fine..

Download gmer from http://www.gmer.net & unzip it to desktop

Launch gmer.exe by double-clicking it. Select the rootkit tab & make sure the 'Show All' button is unticked.

Press scan & when it has finished press copy & paste the log back here

Grinler,

Thank you for your time with this....Well I jumped the gun and formatted my C/system drive and began to install Win XP Home. Each time I received either the BSOD with a memory type issue or a popup stating that the Catalog files failed so Setup is shutting down.

I then removed 1 of my 512MB DDR400 sticks of ram and I was able to complete a clean install and I have no issues except for the fact my PC is slower running at 512Mbs.

Make sense? Or do you think I might have an issue with the slot on the MOBO? I did check the bios and loaded default prior to formatting and I will still having the issues.

Coop

It is either one of the memory sticks went bad or a bad slot. To test that, you can take the 512 you removed, and put it into the currently working slots. If its bad again, then we know its the memory. If its fine, then we know its a slot.
