 I have a Compaq Presario running Windows XP SP3 without any problems until recently.

However, recently it seems to have dropped my CD drive and, although the BIOS and BELARC Advisor both acknowledge it is present in the machine the system doesn't. Wen I put a cd into the drive it starts up and runs for a while then it stops.

Additionally when I look under "My Computer" the CD drive, which is a LITE-ON combo SOHC-4832K, is not present.

Can anyone tell me what has happened and how to fix this problem?

I appreciate any help which members can offer.

First...check all connections.

Second...remove the drive via Device Manager...reboot and allow XP to redetect it.

Post back after that and let us know what happens .

Check Disk Management and see if the drive is properly reflected there.
