I have had a little success in similar situations, I never make my docs private any more

Is this a legal copy of XP? The WGA notification shouldn't appear unless there's a problem with the installation. If it's not legal, I'd suggest contacting Microsoft for assistance in obtaining a legal copy.

My software is legal. When I click resolve later or resolve now, it displays "logging off.." and saving your settings" and all it does is return me to the welcome page. I run recently an updated antivirus (eScan)and it doesn't encounter any problems. Do you think that my problem is due to WGA or virus? Or if I try that XPrepairinstall, it will repair only the operating system and not delete my files in "My Documents"? Hope someone could help me retrieve my files. thanks.

It could be both, a repair install would not risk your data

Try the repair install as DaChew recommends.
If that doesn't fix it, then try one of these free, online scans to verify that you're clean:
(Be advised that some of these scanners will pickup things in "quarantine" from other anti-virus programs - so review the results carefully)
