I am a long time Yahoo members. I have seen the transformation of its website way back in the 90s. Recently they introduce this feature that you can chat when inside your email. But lately, I have been receiving various chat request from different usernames I do not know. My question is, is this some kind of hacking attempts with this users? Is my security already compromised since I always used the invisible mode but I still received this chat messages telling me to chat with them which I always dismiss as spams.

I don't know if I would describe it as spam. It seems more like trolls trying to get you to go to porn sites and stuff like that. I usually click on ignore and it gives the option to report as spam so I do that too. But sometimes I get contacted by people who know who I am because of my blog but I don't know them. So I just ask questions like who are you and how do you know me. Sometimes it's someone I want to talk to, sometimes not.

thanks for the responses but I just am concerned how they know that I am online. I am on an invisible mode. And I am assuming that they might be able to still see me and try to hack me in the process.

Nah, I don't think so. It's a drive by thing. They're picking member names at random. They don't know who you are and if you ignore them and report them as spam, they'll never know.

I was thinking on this thought since I was infected by a malware several weeks ago. I suspect that because of that the security of my PC was compromised. I also think that that malware did stay in my system for quite sometime. Although I was able to clean it with the help of Hijackthis software and in another forum there was somebody who help me with using th HJT and claening and removing my Malware.

I dunno. You could have got it anywhere. I haven't heard of anyone getting malware from Yahoo Messenger though I have heard of people getting it from MSN.

Yeah that is true. I might have taken it from anywhere I browse. I suspected Yahoo since I am most frequently accessing this site and so it is most likely to come from here the infection.
