Thanks for getting back to me.
Problem now is my computer does not get past the windows XP start up screen. That bar just keeps going from right to left. I tried a safe mode startup with and without network and it just hangs on one of the startup files. Before all this it would sometimes startup after another reboot but now no joy at all. I also tried a windows repair from the CD but that didn't work either. Any tips?

Hi

If Last known good configuration option doesn't work either then there isn't much to do. Since repair install didn't work I'm afraid reinstall is only option.
