Thank you, thank you thank you! I am grateful, can you tell? I did as instructed, and all appears to be well now. To answer your question, I have XP Pro, but a non-licensed version without any service packs (a friend installed it for me after a hard drive crash).
I did not have any real time antivirus protection, because this is an old and slow computer and those programs slow it down too much. But I did try other programs that did not get rid of the virus, including the free versions of Avast, Spydoctor and Multivirus something or other.
I have another question or 2. I also have PC Checkup 2.5 on my computer, and it does not appear in my programs list, does not offer an uninstall option. Is this program legit? I think I want to get rid of it.
Any programs you would recommend to speed up an old computer with a dinosaur processor?
I am hoping that the MBM program you recommended will be sufficient protection if I run it regularly, at least until I get a new computer.
