I don't see anything popping up, any extra windows, any home page alteration, etc. Where I notice the problem is when navigating through web pages. When I try to click on the back button, it will just stay where it is. When I look at the page history, the previous two entries are ad.yieldmanager entries. Even after going through all the removal steps in the tutorial, it's still there. I don't know how to get rid of it. Help!

Here's the HJT Log:

Hello jc1357,

Download CCleaner and install it. (default location is best). Do not run it yet!

Beginners Guide to CCleaner

*******************************************

I notice that you have Spybot's TeaTimer running.
While this is normally a wonderful tool to protect against hijackers, it can also interfere with the fixes.
So please disable TeaTimer by doing the following:
1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts

You can reenable TeaTimer once your system is clean.

Please run HijackThis and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries, if present:

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapps.yahoo.com/customize/.../search/ie.html
O2 - BHO: Adobe PDF Reader Link Helper - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.dll (file missing)

Close all browsers and other windows except for HijackThis, and click "Fix checked"

*NOTE* CCleaner deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders and does not make backups.

Let's empty the temp files:

Run CCleaner.

CAUTION: Please do NOT use the Issues or Registry button. This is a built-in registry cleaner. If you don't know how to use it, you may cause irreparable damage to your system.

1. Starting with v1.27.260, CCleaner installs the Yahoo Toolbar as an option which IS checkmarked by default during the installation.
IF you do NOT want it, REMOVE the checkmark when provided with the option OR download the toolbarfree Basic version instead of the Standard Build.

2. Before first use, select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK "Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours"

3. Then select the items you wish to clean up.

In the Windows Tab:
Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section except Autocomplete Forum History.
Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
Clean all entries in the "System" section except for Start Menu Shortcuts and Desktop Shortcuts.
Clean any others that you choose.

In the Applications Tab:
Clean all including cookies in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
Clean any others that you choose.

4. Click the "Run Cleaner" button.
5. A pop up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
6. Click "OK" and it will scan and clean your system.
7. Click "exit" when done.

If it asks you to reboot at the end, click NO.

CCleaner should be run with the above settings for each User Account!

Once the program has loaded, select "Perform Quick Scan", then click Scan.
The scan may take some time to finish, so please be patient.
When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
When disinfection is completed, a log will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to Restart. (See Extra Note)
The log is automatically saved by MBAM and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.

Copy and Paste the entire Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Extra Note:
If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts, click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process, if asked to restart the computer, please do so immediatly.

If you encounter this message:"c:\program files\malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\mbamext.dll Unable to register the dll/ocx: RegSvr32 failed with exit code 0x5" Click on ignore mbamext.dll

Sorry. Same place it was before - when I search for items on ebay it shows up. After I've searched for an item, I hit the back button and it won't go back to the previous screen. It just stays on the screen that it's in. When I look at the browser history dropdown, I see an entery like this: http://ad.yieldmanager.com/st?ad_type=i I haven't noticed it in other places yet, but before it would also show up when i did other web searches, like Amazon, etc. Any ideas for what to do next?

Download the HostsXpert Here
http://www.funkytoad.com/download/HostsXpert.zip

Unzip HostsXpert to your desktop

Open up the HostsXpert program.

* Make sure that the "make hosts writable?" button in the upper left corner is enabled.
* Click back up Host files
* then click "Restore MS Hosts File"
* close program

Click Start>Run> Type in (or copy and paste) ipconfig /flushdns and hit enter. You'll get a confirmation that the flush was successful.

Reboot your computer.

Let me know if it's better, please

Okay, did all that, did some noodling around ebay and some other different websites, and so far it's fine. It seemed like it was fine during the day yesterday too but then showed back up again last night. Please don't quit watching this thread yet - I'll post if it shows up again, and I'll post tomorrow night or Wednesday if it seems to be all clear now. Do you want me to run another HJT Log and post it now?

Well, so far, so go, but I did have one mysterious related thing happen tonight. It had been fine all day. Tonight as I was trying to move from one screen to another, a window suddenly appeared. It had an error message in it. I don't remember exactly what it was, but it had something to do with ad.yieldmanager not being able to find something or not being able to run. So it seems that there might be some little vestige of it still lurking on the PC.

However, I have not had any other issues and I have not noticed the ad.yieldmanager lines showing up in my broweser history dropdown like they were before. So I'm not sure if I'm okay or not. If it hadn't been for the window that appeard a couple of hours ago, I would be ready to declare victory, but I'm not so sure.

If it has not shown up in a day, then it is not going to show up.
