Okay, here's the deal. I used to frequently visit a message board. I lost my account info, so I decided to register with a new name.

I was contacted by one of the admins via email after trying to log-in and getting a "you've been banned" message.

The admin told me that they knew it was me. I explained the situation, they restored my previous account, and all was well.

What confused me though was this. I asked the admin how they recognized me. I asked if they checked my IP, and they cryptically said "There are other ways."

What "other ways" are there to detect a person's ID?

Thanks, Z\S/
