Sorry if there is already a topic on this, but I can't fix the problem. For the past 4 weeks or so, if I try to download something, it doesn't save. It asks me to Save or Run, I'll type in a filename to save to, and it goes through the download, then it just ends. It closes the download box, but it doesn't save. It's like nothing happened at all.

It does this with anything from files I've emailed to myself, video files, and programs.

Can anyone help? Please

Have you searched your hard drive for any of those files to see if they were saved somewhere else?
Have you stopped the download box from automatically closing, so you can use it to follow/open the file once it's been downloaded (only do this with something you're sure of - otherwise you could be letting an infection onto your system).
My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.

Try saving to desktop just as a test as this would save trying to search different folders.

Also once it has "downloaded", open up your start menu and type the file name into the search box and this should help locate the file if you still cannot find it.

Do you use IE or Firefox or other?

In Firefox you can go to tools and then downloads and this will open up the download box. From there you should be able to open/run what you've downloaded aswell as opening the containing folder of the file.

I am having the exact same problem & I have tried to saving downloads to my desktop without success. I have noticed that I CAN do windows updates or updates to programs that are already installed but no downloading of new programs. I am currently running IE7. I can't try the FF option because I can't download it. I was going to try an solve it with a registry checker, but alas I can't download one. I am about to throw my laptop through a window!!!!!! Please help me.

From what i can find, this problem occurs because the Msctf.dll file is trying to send the download command to an invalid thread.

Try turning off the advanced text services feature. To do this, follow these steps:
1. Click Start, click Run, type control international, and then click OK.
2. Click the Languages tab, and then click Details.
3. Click the Advanced tab, click to select the Turn off advanced text services check box, and then click OK two times.

Also have you download and installed service pack 3 yet? if not try doing so first and see if that resolves the issue.

Are you able to download windows updates etc? Try the above aswell or if not post back.
