What an absolute nightmare, my Son's computer kept telling him that he had 800 or so viruses or Trojans. So I thought I'd have a go at fixing it.

Two days later, and only because I managed to find this forum I think I am actually making progress.

I downloaded AVG free from a different computer
Also Adware Alert (This has now been identifed as a Trojan, is that true? I had to pay for that!!)

Every time I tried to update my out of date subscription to Norton, IE dcecided to send me somewhere else or tell that the web site didn't exist. Nasty silly wallpaper so so frustrating.

I have now downloaded SDFix, Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware v1.26, DrWeb Cleanit and lastly SmitFruadFix.

So far the clean up is going well, SDFix found some memory resident stuff and cleaned up some files. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware found some more files, and DrWeb is now doing a complete scan in safe mode with another two hours to go, so far 13 more items have been found, to do with Gram Locks (Trojan.Swizzor).

If only I had renewed my Virus protection, perhaps this would have been stopped, that Antivirus XP 2008 is absolutely Horrible, very nasty people who need nasty things doing to them for putting that out there.

Fingers Crossed and I hope all will be fixed.

Thx to this forum I have some hope now.

Regards
Doug

Hello and welcome. Unfortunately Adware Alert is..
Rogue Security Software: Security software that uses deceptive means for installation and purpose. Once installed, the rogue software usually uses scare tactics to inform the user that spyware or malware is installed on their system. The rogue security software then claims to offer remediation in exchange of payment. These applications can come bundled with other malware that serve other purposes. This software usually comes in the form of Anti-spyware, or Anti-virus applications.

Plaese post back the results of the MBAM log.SDFix and Smitfraud if you ran it.
SDFix: When done, the SDFix report log will open in notepad and automatically be saved in the SDFix folder as Report.txt.

Smitfraud: The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt
How do I get help? Who is helping me?For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear....Become a BleepingComputer fan: Facebook

SmitFraud - Couldn't find the log file.

I ran MBAM again it it came back clear

I hope that means that I have removed everything, and once more a big thank you to this forum as I would have had to reformat my drive.

Thx
Doug
