Hi all,

something hit me two days ago. Pretty mean, I was surfing using IE in windows XP.

Result: Destop Screen altered, to show a Vista style window with a "warning" that spyware was detected.
The Display Properties dialog was modified so that the Desktop and Screensaver tabs are no longer visible.
I lost my internet connection (hard wired), and I visited the system32/drivers directory and tried to remove the tcpip.sys and tcpip6.sys files (apparently malware hides in these files sometimes), but amazingly, within seconds, these files are re-written.

I tried setting the drivers directory to read only, but something keeps putting the files back.

There is also a very odd behavior on the desktop in general, right clicking on any icon starts an uninstall procedure for Trend Micro Internet security. This malware seems to be very agressive in defeating your virus protection! I click "cancel" while the procedure is running, so I hope that my antivirus software is still there and working...

I have run Adaware which cleared many cookies. I have the Trend Micro system cleaner running now, but it is literally taking days to do it's thing. During this process, a copule of times, there was a warning: virus found, TCS_genclean.... but Trend Micro says that task is their cleanup task!

It blows my mind that surfing to a web page can nail someone so hard. At least I think that is what the cause was...

Thanks for checking my log... whomever most helps me out of this mess will get a paypal award... or a donation your favorite shareware author.
