Hello people, I've posted hijackthis logs on here before and recieved very useful help. Hoping for the same this time. Im posting this from my laptop which isn't the infected computer, I can't seem to access bleeping computer from the other pc? It's hard to describe the problems Im having specifically, but generally the pc is running a lot slower, browsing has been affected and my wireless connections keep dropping and disappearing. I noticed the 'relevantknowledge' files and ms antivirus files during regular scans and attempted to eliminate them

I've ran ad-aware scans, but had trouble with downloading the malware programs, basically my browser wouldn't allow me to download them. I've used spybot search and destroy in the past but this time the program wouldn't start stating 'sqlite3.dll' wasn't present, I uninstalled and reinstalled but it still wouldn't work.

So apologies for not being able to run the malware programs, hopefully somebody can still help with the following log??

The wireless connection for the laptop, ps3 etc is from the bthomehub wired to the pc and these connections fail on a regular basis at the minute, could this be a different problem and just coincides with the other problems or are they linked?

Any help at all would be greatly appreciated, I'm struggling here lol

Thanks, sam.

I didn't want to bump this thread, but the problem has progressed and some new info might help anybody looking to assist?

Today the computer basically wouldn't boot up, after the windows logo the screen just went black. So I ran it in safe mode, then ran chkdsk /r and restarted (I don't have the windows xp disk), I don't think the chkdsk ran properly it came up with a message about my drive being RAW and AUTOCHK was unable to run on these drives....

Another restart sorted the black screen problem and I managed to log into my xp account in normal mode. But an error message appeared referring to a DCOM error and restarted the computer automatically, Im afraid I didn't catch the full error description. This error message didn't reappear though. Im going to attempt to download and run the malware tools again which I failed to do before because the browser was blocking certain sites, including this one (im currently on another machine)

Sorry if all that makes no sense. Any reply would be appreciated, I understand the amount of threads the experts are trying to get through so thanks in advance.

Sam

Hello sammyd,

I will be handling your log to help you get cleaned up. Please give me some time to look it over and I will get back to you as soon as possible.

Can you use a CD/USB stick or another medium to transfer programs from your good computer to the infected computer?

Also, have you attempted to uninstall your Symantec program?

Hello white warrior! Sorry, I've only just checked back here

Yes I am able to transfer programs over to the infected computer. With regards to the symantec program I had trouble with norton antivirus a while back, and with help from these forums tried to remove it fully.

I mentioned the wireless connection problems for other devices around the house being a problem, this isn't the case now, it seems to be back to normal. But I have noticed some other malware showing up, I didn't catch the full name, but I remember windows telling me it was a keylogger virus attempting to acquire passwords etc? We haven't used the computer for banking etc since then.

Thanks,

sam

Hello sammyd. Welcome to Bleeping Computer.

Please save these instructions in Notepad to your Desktop, or print them, for easy reference.

Wherever necessary, you will have to adapt my instructions to download and transfer these programs to the infected computer.

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and transfer it to the Desktop

Please download SmitfraudFix and transfer it to the Desktop.

MBAM
  • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
  • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
  • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
  • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When completed, a log will open in Notepad. Please save it to a location you will remember.
  • Copy and Paste that log into your next reply.
Smitfraud

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter".
A text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Note: process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Please Post:

MBAM log.
Smitfraud Report
A new HJT log.

Hello

I got this message after scanning with MBAM

''Certain items could not be removed! The first few are listed below. All items that could not be removed
have been added to the delete on reboot list. Please restart your computer now. A logfile was saved to the Logs folder.

C:\Program Files\PC-Antispy\ASpyStBlk.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\tdssadw.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\tdssl.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\tdssserf.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\tdssmain.dll

Your computer needs to be restarted to complete the removal process. Would you like to continue?''

So I restarted. Check disk ran on reboot, (does check disk need disabling? I used it the last time I was on the pc and presumed it was a one off action.) It corrected errors in index '$130 for file 2048' and recovered two orphaned files into directory file 2048. No clue what this means, but is it likely to have undone some of the work the malwarebytes program did?

Anyhow, here's the MBAM log...

Hello sammyd

Malwarebytes cleaned a lot of infections, but there are more there yet to be cleaned.

I got this message after scanning with MBAM

That’s fine. The items were deleted after the reboot.

does check disk need disabling

That is your choice. It won’t undo any of the cleaning we are doing.
See here if you wish to disable it.

This entry is a keygen: C:\My Downloads\other downloads\SONY ACID Music Studio 5.0a - Make your own music, mixes, mash-up and more\SONY ACID Music Studio 5.0a - Make your own music, mixes, mash-up and more\acid_mstudio50a1\keygen\keygen.exe

Crack, keygen and pirate sites are places some folks go to look for keys and workarounds to illegally use products rather than buy them. In many cases, these sites are infested with a smörgåsbord of malware and an increasing source of system infection. They can lead to other sites containing more malware which you can inadvertently download without knowledge or consent. In some instances an infection may cause so much damage to your system that it cannot be successfully cleaned or repaired. In those cases, recovery is not possible and the only option is to reformat/reinstall the OS.

Please print out the following instructions or copy them into a Notepad file so that you see them while in Safe Mode. You will not be able to connect to the Internet or view this topic in Safe Mode.

I notice that you have Spybot's TeaTimer running. While this is normally a wonderful tool to protect against hijackers, it can also interfere with HijackThis fixes. So please disable TeaTimer by doing the following:
1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts
You can re-enable TeaTimer once your system is clean.

Reboot into Safe Mode by continuously tapping the F8 key as soon as the computer begins to boot. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Double-click SmitfraudFix.exe
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart anyway into normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process.
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Download ComboFix to your Desktop. If you have Windows XP Home please download this to your Desktop. If you have Windows XP Professional please download this to your Desktop.

Now, please follow these instructions:
  • Drag and drop the Windows XP Recovery Console on top of ComboFix.exe as shown below.
    Posted Image
  • After the Windows XP Recovery Console is installed ComboFix will ask if you would like to proceed and scan your computer. Choose Yes.
  • Follow the prompts and when ComboFix finishes it will produce a log.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that log into your next reply.
Please reboot the computer if ComboFix did not ask for a reboot.

Note: Do not mouseclick ComboFix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Please Post:

A new HijackThis log.

Hello, thanks for the further info! (now able to post from the infected computer, makes life easier)

Had a few problems running smitfraudfix.exe in safe mode, it wasn't appearing on the desktop and I couldn't find it anywhere else. I ran it in normal mode in the end, is this a problem?

Here is the new smitfraud log...

You mentioned the sonyAcid music studio being a keygen. Will this have been deleted now? Or do I need to uninstall the program.

There are other peer to peer programs on the computer such as bearshare and morpheus. I don't use this computer now, other family members do, morpheus has been getting a lot of use lately - do you think the problems have stemmed from bad downloads? I'd prefer it if these were uninstalled, do you know if any files remain from these through a simple uninstall?

Thanks again, the computer is clearly less infected now and running a lot better. Sorry for all the questions!!

Sam

** just to add, I can't get spybot search and destroy to run, brings up an error, I think I mentioned earlier in the thread. So I didn't know how to disable the tea timer, I don;t think it was any trouble though...

Hello sammyd

You mentioned the sonyAcid music studio being a keygen. Will this have been deleted now? Or do I need to uninstall the program.

Yes, the program will need to be uninstalled.

Not only is the practice of using crack or keygen tools a security risk, it is considered illegal activity and a violation of our BC Discussion/Message Boards Rules

No subject matter will be allowed whose purpose is to defeat existing copyright or security measures. If a user persists and/or the activity is obviously illegal the staff reserves the right to remove such content and/or ban the user. This would also mean encouraging the use or continued use of pirated software is not permitted, and subject to the same consequences.

There are other peer to peer programs on the computer such as bearshare and morpheus. do you think the problems have stemmed from bad downloads?

These programs allow to share files between users as the name(s) suggest. In today's world the cyber crime has come to an enormous dimension and any means is used to infect personal computers to make use of their stored data or machine power for further propagation of the malware files. A popular means is the use of file-sharing tools as a tremendous amount of prospective victims can be reached through it.

It is therefore possible to be infected by downloading manipulated files via peer-to-peer tools and so I suggest it be used with intense care. Further readings on this subject, along with the included links, are as follows: "File-Sharing, otherwise known as Peer To Peer" and "Risks of File-Sharing Technology."

It is also important to note that sharing entertainment files and proprietary software infringes the copyright laws in many countries around the world and you are putting yourself at risk of being indicted through organisations watching over the rights of the authors of such files (i.e. the RIAA for music files, or the MPAA for movie files in the USA) or the authors of the files themselves.

Naturally there are also legal ways to use these services, such as downloading Linux distributions or office suites such as "Open Office."

I'd prefer it if these were uninstalled, do you know if any files remain from these through a simple uninstall?

After you uninstall the programs, I suggest you use the search function.

Click Start>>Search>>select All Files and Folders.
Under More Advanced Options, check the following options:

Search system folders.
Search hidden files and folders.
Search subfolders.

Type in the program name, and delete everything it finds.
Repeat this step for each program you uninstalled.

Sorry for all the questions!!

I am happy to answer all your questions.

Now, can you answer a question for me please.

Do you recognize this entry as something you installed: C:\Documents and Settings\Sam\Application Data\Skinux

Please save these instructions in Notepad to your Desktop, or print them, for easy reference.
Much of our fix will be done in Safe mode, and you will be unable to access this thread at that time.

Reboot into Safe Mode by continuously tapping the F8 key as soon as the computer begins to boot. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.

Open Notepad:- Click Start->All Programs->Accessories click Notepad
Do NOT use any other text editor than Notepad or the script will fail.
Copy/Paste the text in the quote box below into Notepad:

KILLALL::
File::
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\kdunibgh
C:\WINDOWS\system32\o4Patch.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\IEDFix.C.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\AntiXPVSTFix.exe

Save this as txtfile CFScript

Then drag the CFScript into ComboFix.exe as you see in the screenshot below.

Posted Image

This will start ComboFix again.

After reboot, (in case it asks to reboot), it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply please.

Please reboot the computer (if ComboFix did not ask for a reboot)

Note: Reboot the computer back into safe mode.

Please re-open HijackThis and choose Do a system scan only. Check the boxes next to ONLY the entries listed below:

Hello sammyd

I think the computers pretty much clean now

Not yet, but we are almost there. Please stay with me for a while longer.

Can't thank you enough for all the help, great advice and very easy to follow step by step

You are welcome.

Please save these instructions in Notepad to your Desktop, or print them, for easy reference.

A couple of files are being stubborn, so please delete them manually.

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete these files (if present):

C:\Documents and Settings\Sam\Application Data\Skinux<<C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\kdunibgh<<
The remnants of Norton need to be cleaned up.

To fully remove Norton AntiVirus, you should go here before uninstalling and download the files and print the instructions for removal, and follow them after uninstalling NAV.
How to uninstall Norton AntiVirus 2003/2004/2005/2006/2007/2008:
- Vista/XP/2000 - Click Here (Note: this removes ALL Norton 2003/2004/2005/2006/2007/2008 products from your computer)
- Me/98 - Click Here
How to uninstall Norton AntiVirus 2000/2001/2002

Please re-open HijackThis and choose Do a system scan only. Check the boxes next to ONLY the entries listed below:

O23 - Service: Symantec Network Proxy (ccProxy) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccProxy.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: Symantec Password Validation (ccPwdSvc) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccPwdSvc.exe (file missing)
O23 - Service: Symantec Settings Manager (ccSetMgr) - Symantec Corporation - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exe
O23 - Service: Symantec SPBBCSvc (SPBBCSvc) - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SPBBC\SPBBCSvc.exe (file missing)

Please reboot the computer.

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malicious sites can use to exploit and infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) Version 6 and save it to your Desktop.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE)6 Update 7...allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Select your Plattform: "Windows".
  • Select your Language: "English".
  • Read the License Agreement, and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • Click Continue and the page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your Desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add or Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java version.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your Desktop double-click on jre-6u7-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
Please do a scan with Kaspersky Online Scanner

Note: If you are using Windows Vista, open your browser by right-clicking on its icon and select 'Run as administrator' to perform this scan.

Click on the Accept button and install any components it needs.
  • The program will install and then begin downloading the latest definition files.
  • After the files have been downloaded on the left side of the page in the Scan section select My Computer.
  • This will start the program and scan your system.
  • The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it run.
  • Once the scan is complete, click on View scan report
  • Now, click on the Save Report as button.
  • In the drop down box labeled Files of type change the type to Text file.
  • Save the file to your Desktop.
  • Copy and Paste that information in your next post.
Please download: CCleaner
Run the installer, and UNcheck the option to install Yahoo toolbar (unless you want Yahoo toolbar).
  • Double-click CCleaner
  • Click the Windows tab
  • The following should be selected by default, if not, please select:
    Posted Image
  • Click Options
  • Click the Advanced tab
  • Uncheck: Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hrs
  • Click Cleaner (The picture of a broom)
  • Click Run Cleaner (bottom right)
  • A warning will pop-up. Click OK
  • Exit
Delete the SmitfraudFix folder on the Desktop.

Now, we need to uninstall ComboFix.

To uninstall ComboFix

Go to Start->Run, and type in ComboFix /u
Make sure there is a space between ComboFix and /u
Click Enter

This will
  • Uninstall ComboFix.
  • Delete its related folders and files.
  • Reset your clock settings.
  • Hide file extensions.
  • Hide the system/hidden files.
  • And resets System Restore again.
Please Post:

Kaspersky Report
A new HJT log.

Hello mate, thanks for the update. Unfortunately I'm not going to be near the computer for the next few days (posting from laptop). I'll go through your latest advice as soon as I'm back though, just wanted to let you know rather than leave you hanging.

Thanks, Sam
