I can use safe mode with networking right now.

Have been troubleshooting infections via Spybot and Avast anti-virus. Spyware Doctor (trial) shows infections of email worm Zhelatin, and downloader agent!ssd6, Win32: patched-ck, also something called Spyware.Internet_Explorer_User_Restrictions. Avast at start-up prompted me to make selections as usual (delete to remove to ignore, etc.), and one infection could not be deleted, fixed, or moved to chest (do not know the infection name, it was prefaced as a win32 file). After moving to chest any infections that could be moved, I rebooted. When I rebooted Windows comes up, but NOTHING is on the desktop but a wallpaper that's part of one of these infections: a windows security alert that looks like a window to start an anti-virus program (it's an ad). I can see my programs and files through task manager only, but they do not load and I cannot use them. I switched then to safe mode to get online.

Recommendations? I tried to reboot going back to the last working configuration, but the same thing happens -- the blank blue Windows screen but no task bar or shortcuts, just the wallpaper. My desktop items do come up in safe mode with networking.

I have not paid for a subscription to Spyware Doctor (wanted to try it) so it's not registered yet. However, I noticed this "blank windows-no taskbar" screen problem occurred after I moved several infections to the chest on Avast. I did not have any success getting a recovery and undo whatever was moved in order to see if that was the problem on my display.

Thanks for help -- son suggested I try you guys (he's buried on campus helping fellow students with physics!)
