I can't seem to download the XP_CodecRepair.inf. I am using IE7. I have followed the instructions below. When I click on the link to the file I get an Error 404: Page Not Found. While on the error page I try to use the file-->save as instruction. I done get a File -->"Save page as" option just the "save as". I save the page using the "webpage complete" option but this only save the 404 error page and image file.

I know this is probably supposed to be easier but I can't seem to get around it. My pc was infected by the Viruswebprotect2008.com. I have already run the SDFix and Malwarebytes. I have manually restored the missing items to my start menu (Control Panel, search, help and support, etc..)I am still missing the following:

When My Computer is opened the "C:" drive is missing alond with "D:"(cd/dvd), but the link to control Panel is back in the main window and on the shortcut menu on the left side of the window. I can however see the "C:" drive when right clicking on the start button and choosing Explore.

I can post any log files that you may need.

To fix the restrictions put in place by this infection, please open the SDFix folder or download XP_CodecRepair.inf and save it to your desktop.

  • RIGHT CLICK on XP_CodecRepair.inf and select Install from the Context menu.
  • Note: To download the .inf file, go to File, choose "Save page as" All Files and save XP_CodecRepair.inf to your desktop.
  • Then log off or reboot to apply the changes.
This will remove the policy restrictions the infection created and restore the Start Menu items.

Hi islandtime

Would you mind updating MalwareBytes and posting a new log. Let's see what's there...
