I scheduled CHKDSK to run the next time I restarted my computer. It ran fine though all 5 stages. After it got done with stage 5 it says that CHKDSK is finished and the volume is clean. But it freezes at this screen. I cannot get my computer to boot now. It keeps going to CHKDSK, which takes several hours to run.

I am running Windows XP. The HDD is 500 gb. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? It freezes at this screen everytime. I have no idea what to do. Please help!

Thanks,

Nic4433

I forgot to mention that when the CHKDSK first comes up it has a 10 second countdown where it says push any button to cancel. I push a button several times but it doesn't cancel CHKDSK.

Sounds like there may be an issue with your hard drive.

Are you able to boot into safe mode? Can you run a chkdsk from there? If you can get into the PC via safe mode with networking, you can try SeaTools to test your HDD: http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools or Hitachi Drive Fitness Test: http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm.
