I just bought a new HP laptop and my pointer sticks and jumps when using the mousepad. I have tried to adjust the sensitivity control but this does not help. Does any have any suggestions to smooth out this problem?

Exchange the laptop if its brand new. There could be a few contributing factors, but one is most prevalent they should not have given you a faulty product regardless what the problem is. However you could try reinstalling the drivers for the pointing device. They should be on the restore CD that they gave you when you bought the laptop. Have you tried an External Mouse? Does it do the same thing?
