I recently had help with my laptop, but now I'm thinking I need help with the main computer-

If someone could please look at this, I would appreciate it...everything's been running slow, and Adaware Se seems to get rid of files, but they all come back.

Hey budlain! Back again with a different computer? Let's clean it up. Please print these directions and then proceed with the following steps in order.

Step #1

Download LSP-Fix to your desktop. Do not run it yet.

Download CleanUp! and install it but do not run it yet.

Step #2

I recommend that you uninstall Limewire. It has been verified that this P2P application is one which includes spyware and other infectious applications in its installation.

Now we will remove some programs using Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel:
  • Click Start.
  • Click Control Panel.
  • Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
  • Look in the Currently installed programs box for each program listed below and if it is there:
  • Click on it to select it.
  • Click Change (or Change/Remove) button.
  • If you are prompted to confirm the removal of the program, click Yes.

Step #3

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4B31FF24-7632-6AB2-2E96-75D53C32D97A} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\vmuigyhv.dll

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Step #4

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Find the following files/folders and delete them (don't worry if they are already gone):C:\WINDOWS\system32\vmuigyhv.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\qnuyzxgu.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\yqcqgymd.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\l6n40g5qe6.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\kjzdevuq.exe
c:\windows\system32\pwccao.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\mswnec95.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\msjuv.exe
C:\WINDOWS\farmmext.exe
C:\Program Files\LimeWire\ <--folder
C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\WinTools\ <--folder
C:\Program Files\Odsrret\ <--folder

Note: If you receive any error messages while trying to delete any of the above files/folders then reboot into Safe Mode and try to delete them again. See the instructions below on how to boot into Safe Mode.

If needed, start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer in Safe Mode.
  • As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
If you rebooted into Safe Mode reboot normally now.

Step #5

Disconnect from the Internet and close all Internet Explorer Windows. Run LspFix.exe and click in the checkbox for I know what I'm doing. Click on each listing of c:\windows\system32\dolsp.dll and then move it into the Remove section by clicking on the >> button that points to the right. When all instances of this dll are in the Remove section press the Finish button.

Now reboot to finish the fix.

Step #6

Start CleanUp! and click on the CleanUp! button. Let it run to completion. It may take a few minutes depending on the size of your hard drive so be patient.

Step #7

Please run at least 2 of the following on-line virus scans:Trend Micro Housecall
BitDefender On-Line Virus Scan
Panda ActiveScan
Make sure that you choose "fix" or "clean".

Step #8

Click on the link below and follow the directions on the webpage to run an online trojan scan:WindowSecurity online trojan scan
Step #9

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post your new log file back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.

Thanks OT! I think I did it all right here...

Can you recommend a P2P music sharing program that doesn't have spyware problems? I'd like to have something where I can get the music, but I don't want anything contaminating the system... I deleted Limewire as you suggested, but I'm hoping there's a replacement program out there somewhere that works..

Step #1

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:O2 - BHO: (no name) - {4B31FF24-7632-6AB2-2E96-75D53C32D97A} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {7F4AC95A-A6FF-5FD0-9668-F5AE70FB5927} - (no file)

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Step #2

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Find the following files/folders and delete them (don't worry if they are already gone):C:\WINDOWS\system32\dciedir.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\cicstrm.exe

Note: If you receive any error messages while trying to delete any of the above files/folders then reboot into Safe Mode and try to delete them again. See the instructions below on how to boot into Safe Mode.

If needed, start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer in Safe Mode.
  • As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
Step #3

Start CleanUp! and click on the CleanUp! button. Let it run to completion. It may take a few minutes depending on the size of your hard drive so be patient.

Step #4

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post your new log file back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.

Hey budlain. Your getting new infections as fast as we take the old ones off. I'm going to have you run a couple of different scanners before we go any further to see if we have something hiding on your system. Please following these steps in order.

Step #1

Download rkfiles.zip and unzip it to its own permanent folder.

Important! Reboot in SAFE MODE !!

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer in Safe Mode.
  • As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
Locate the rkfiles.bat file and double-click it to run it. It will start scanning your computer and could take a little while so be patient. When the DOS window closes, reboot back to normal mode.

Post the contents of C:\log.txt back here and I will review it when it comes in.

Step #2
  • Download FindQoologic2.zip save it to your Desktop.
  • Unzip Find-Qoologic2.zip to its own folder and then use Windows Explorer to navigate to that folder.
  • Double-click the Find-Qoologic2.bat file to run it. It will take some time so be patient.
  • When Notepad opens with the results in it copy/paste the entire contents of the document back here.
OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post your new log file and the 2 logs from the steps above back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.

Hi budlain. There the little buggers are. Ok, let's go get them. Please print these directions and then proceed with the following steps in order.

Step #1

Navigate to c:\winnt\system32\ and search for these files (they might or might not be there):HTOKNH.da0
HTOKNH.cfg

If you find them we will take care of them in Step #5.

Step #2

Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the quotebox below into the new document[/list]

Save the document to your desktop as fixqoo.reg and close Notepad.

Step #3

Download the Pocket Killbox.

Unzip the contents of KillBox.zip to a convenient location and then double-click on KillBox.exe to launch the program.

Step #4

Highlight the lines below and press the Ctrl key and the C key at the same time to copy them to the clipboard:C:\WINDOWS\icont.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SSK_B5.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\HTOKNH.DLL

Now go to the Killbox application and click on the File menu and then the Paste from Clipboard menu item. In the Full Path of File to Delete box you should see the first file. If you dropdown that box you should see the rest of them. Make sure that they are all there.

Click on the Delete on Reboot option and then click on the red circle with a white 'X' in to to delete the files. Killbox will tell you that all listed files will be deleted on next reboot, click YES. When it asks if you would like to Reboot now, click YES. If you get a "PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!" message then just restart manually.

You system will reboot now.

After rebooting, you could get alot of error messages when applications start because these files were linked to Explorer.exe. That is normal.

Step #5

Now open Internet Explorer and go to the eTrust Antivirus Web Scanner and perform a scan. This will repair the applicaiton errors that you are receiving and clean up the rest of the infection.

Step #6

If you found any of the files listed in Step #1 then do the following, otherwise skip to Step #6.
  • Type or copy/paste each file into the top Full Path of File to Delete field one at a time.
  • Click the Delete File button which looks like a red stop sign with a white 'X' in it.
  • If you have not entered the last file click No at the Pending Operations prompt; after the last file is entered click Yes and allow your computer to reboot.
Step #7

Locate the fixqoo.reg file on your desktop and right-click on it. Choose Merge from the popup menu and answer Yes or Ok to any further prompts

Step #8

Start HijackThis and click the Scan button to perform a scan. Look for the following items and click in the checkbox in front of each item to select it:O2 - BHO: (no name) - {016235BE-59D4-4CEB-ADD5-E2378282A1D9} - C:\Program Files\CxtPls\cxtpls.dll

Now close ALL open windows except HijackThis and click the Fix Checked button to finish the repair.

Step #9

Important! Reboot in SAFE MODE !!

Start in Safe Mode Using the F8 method:
  • Restart the computer in Safe Mode.
  • As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
  • Use the arrow keys to select the Safe Mode menu item.
  • Press the Enter key.
Locate the rkfiles.bat file and double-click it to run it. It will start scanning your computer and could take a little while so be patient. When the DOS window closes, reboot back to normal mode.

Post the contents of the new C:\log.txt file back here in the next step.

Step #10

Double-click the Find-Qoologic2.bat file to run it. It will take some time so be patient.

When Notepad opens with the results in it copy/paste the entire contents of the document back here.


Step #11

OK. Reboot your computer normally, start HijackThis and perform a new scan. Use the Add Reply button to post your new HijackThis log file,the new log from rkfiles.bat and the new log file from find-qoologic2.bat back here along with details of any problems you encountered performing the above steps and I will review it when it comes in.

This computer is sure being a drag! The HJT files won't delete..

Norton comes up with warning msgs about 3 different times during qoologic.bat. I'm not sure how to handle that, but I allowed the files to run...

Hi budlain. It looks like the 2 scan log files are both from qoologic. Could you re-run just those 2 scans. Those files might actually be gone.
