I found out yesterday that my computer was infected. After coming to this site and downloading the information on how to get rid of it I was very relieved it was gone. Then I tried to access my pictures saved on my computer under My Pictures. None of them will open. We can't open the slide show application either. Has anybody else had this problem and if so, how can I get this program to work again. So far thats the only thing that hasn't come back into operation. Is there a way to fix this? HELP!!

When I double click on a picture, absolutely nothing happens. The pictures themselves now show as a file jpg format, but won't open. I used to be able to double click and the pic would pop up and I could do anything with it. Now I double click and nothing happens. I didn't have a problem until I had the Antivirus thing come up. The pics are precious and I would love to be able to open them or transfer them to a storage disk, but even from the storage disk they won't open.

I appreciate any help you can give.

Thanks,

nanabear

p.s. hope I replied right this time

Try this.

Download the following file and extract it to your desktop:

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/fileassoc/xp_jp...e_assoc_fix.zip

Then double-click on the xp_jpg_jpe_jpeg_file_assoc_fix.reg file and when it asks if you would like merge the information, select yes. Then reboot and try to open one of your images.

Thanx. I tried it but it didn't do anything. I do appreciate everything you have given me to try. I am getting pics thru email and when I try to open them it pops up and tells me that I don't have a program asociated with this operation. Am I going to have to totally wipe out my computer and start all over?

Click on start, then run, and type in the Open: field the following:

regsvr32 %windir%\system32\shimgvw.dll

Then press the OK button. When it is done, press the OK button and try to open a jpg image.

Tried it, but it tells me I can't run it because I "may not have permission to access"

I don't really know how to do that so I don't think so. My husband was always the computer person in the family. But he hasn't had the time or patience to try to deal with this. Is it something easy I could do?

Thanx so much for your patience and willingness to help with this, if I haven't said it before.

I just got done doing the combo fix and I am ECSTATIC!!!!! I just opened pictures of my new grand-daughter that I haven't been able to open since I was cursed with the Avitvirus XP ka-ka!

Thank You so much for all of your help and patience. I hate to admit it, but I am severly computer illiterate. You have been such a big help! I will never be able to say Thank You enough, but Thank You!
