Hello. I woke up to my computer having a large box on it saying it was infected with a virus and I needed to update my antivirus etc. I ran Avast and it found some trojan horses but said they were in a read only file and could do nothing with them.
I bought a subscription to Webroot Anti-spy and Anti- Virus...it found a bunch of stuff...I quarantined it

Well, now I have no icons, no start button, and followed some advice that was given on here in another post to try to do a system restore. It only gives me a restore date to the day of the quarantine...I tried this but when it reboots I get a an error saying there is a problem with the floppy (drive?)....and I can either go to F1 to continue or F2 to system settings.....
I did both, but have no idea what I'm looking at when I press F2. I did get far enough in that to tell it to restore factory defaults.
At any rate...It finishes the reboot and I still have a blue screen.
I am currently using ctrl + alt+ delete to go to task manager and do a new function to get online.
Thanks in advance for any help you may have. :flowers:

Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode
.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main "Select Files to Delete" choose: Select All.
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox or Opers browser click that browser at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program
.

NOW Scan with SUPER
Open from the desktop icon or the program Files list
On the left, make sure you check C:\Fixed Drive.
Perform a Complete scan. After scan,Verify they are all checked.

I can't open anything from an icon. Even when I download new things, it won't let me save them to the desktop as an icon. What should I do? Thanks!

Were you able to installl the Super and ATF, but you can't open them? If so rename the icon to something else ,like cake and pie then see if you can open them.

It's the unfortunate side affects of those sites. That's why we wanted to clear them all. Did you run the ATF Cleaner too?
