Well what a disaster, I yesterday asked for some help with memory upgrade for a friend.

Well he installed new memory from 1gb to 2gb. When he started up the hard drive stayed on / the mains on button keeps flashing / there is no signal to the monitor / & thats it nothing!!!

I went round and put his old memory back in & restarted but this time It started as normal (so it seemed) it then stops H/Drive activity after about 5 seconds / no signal on monitor / & thats how it stays doing nothing.

I am not an expert on the bits in the case so SOME HELP would be most appreciated, I did see he has an ATI Card installed (Monitor is attached to that)

Make sure that you haven't accidentally unplugged something, and make sure that the RAM is properly seated.

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

I guess that I was under the impression that your friend was buying 2 modules of PNY memory.

I don't think I'd buy memory from PC World unless I knew who really made it.

The memory may be incompatible with the pre-existing module.

Did you try each module separately, rather than together?

Theoretically...all PC3200 should work in any system. But that isn't the way it sometimes happens.

Hi

Sometimes the POST (power on self test) detects what it perceives to be a problem with the RAM as it has detected more than it was expecting. In this case you just need to enter the CMOS, accept the new setting then reboot.

This may sound stupid SLIX but I can't see a damn thing as the monitor is blank no signal, so i can't see to what stage it boots to

Hi

Are you getting any bleep codes from the system speaker when the PC goes through its POST?
