I have been using ComboFix for some time but this is the first time that it has failed.
On Step 2 the computer simply reboots and upon startup the hard drives need to be check for consistency.
Combofix never continues at this point. I have to reset my clock settings at this point. However, I can run
ComboFix in Safe Mode.

Any ideas?

I have tested my hard drive for errors and have performed defragmentation. HiJackThis shows no abnormalities.
I run ComboFix every so often as part of maintenance.

cygnusx1,

ComboFix is an extremely powerful tool which should only be used when instructed to do so by someone who has been properly trained. ComboFix is intended by its creator to be "used under the guidance and supervision of an expert", NOT for private use. Please read Combofix's Disclaimer. Using this tool incorrectly could lead to disastrous problems with your operating system such as preventing it from ever starting again.

Even though you have previously used this tool without issue, instructions for this tool can only be given in the HijackThis forum. I see this topic was moved because it lacks an HJT log. I suggest running a fresh log, and attaching this question to the top of the log. Explain the problems you are having - in detail, and one of the HJT team will be around to help you as soon as possible.

You may also post a question here, but we cannot advise on ComboFix or HJT usage.

Thanks,
rigel
