1 year old Dell Vostro running XP Home. Having weird problems.

Can access email via Outlook and the net via Firefox.
Cannot get onto the internet via Ie (think it's 6) and I need it to edit my website.
Yahoo messenger will no longer log in either. This happened more recently than the ie issue.
Cannot do a system restore.
When I try to double click on the ie icon to open Explorer, it creates a new shortcut on my desktop/
Virus protection - Kasperski Internet Security 7.0

I tried to do an upgrade reinstallation of windows, fixed a few minor issues but not those stated above. Was getting weird message from Kaspersky saying computer, most notably the yahoo messenger and something else were trying to send hidden data.

Yahoo Msgr failed 2 days after installing Sweet Ims (I'm going to try to uninstall it)>

Ideas anyone?

What firewall software do you have? Try disabling it to see if that fixes the problem.
