Hey everyone. I was downloading some stuff last night and in the process, I think I may have picked up some malware unexpectedly. My CPU usage will jump up to 100% and everything will run slow or completely crash. I ran 1Click Fix, I have Norton Running, WinPatrol, Spybot S&D and Spyware Blaster. Can anyone help?

Hello Bobby, Welcome to BleepingComputer. You have downloaded a mess alright. I will help you remove it, but it will take a little time. If you wish to proceed, this is how we will do it.
I need to say you mentioned WinPatrol. It will block the fix, but I do not see it. If it is onboard, turn it off while you use HJT.

1) You are running HJT from a Temp file in Docs & Settings. We must have a permanent folder in which to store HJT.exe, logs and backups for safety. The following link will show you how to do this. It is important that this be done before you proceed, if a mistake is made and the backups are not available...
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-post-a-hijackthis-log/

2) You have download the New.Net hijacker, and since I have never known anyone who did it on purpose, here are the instructions for removing it.
http://www.newdotnet.com/removal.html It is important this proceedure is used, this appears as 010 in the log, but we can not remove it any other way because it can render your ability to access the internet inoperative. I am also going to give you a link to another tool. It may be a good idea to download this tool to a floppy or CD prior to starting because if there is a problem with the New.Net removal, this tool can fix the internet connection break.
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

3) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Take the time to review the instructions on the download page so that when I ask you to run it you will know what you are doing.

4) In looking at your log, I see this: O2 - BHO: Web assistant - {9ECB9560-04F9-4bbc-943D-298DDF1699E1} - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\AdBlocking\NISShExt.dll (file missing) This is a valid item, but with the missing file may not be functioning properly. I suggest you discuss this with Symantec for their instructions once we are finished. The same thing applies to these items:
O2 - BHO: NAV Helper - {BDF3E430-B101-42AD-A544-FADC6B084872} - C:\Program Files\Norton Internet Security\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: TGTSoft Explorer Toolbar Changer - {C333CF63-767F-4831-94AC-E683D962C63C} - (no file)

5) Open Hijack this and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Blazefind Windupdates Adware

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

SHOW HIDDEN FILES: Follow the instructions in the link to enable hidden files for your operating system.
You may wish to reverse this process if you have any concern about anyone getting into these hidden system files.
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\PROGRAM FILES~1\NEWDOT~1\ >>> folder (May be gone if the uninstall process did it's job)

C:\Program Files\Web_Rebates\ >>> folder (just check to be sure)

Let's check for trojans to make sure none are hiding, run this free online scan, scan the whole system and set it to clean or fix anything it locates. Let me know what it finds and the exact name and location of anything it locates but can't remove. You may be asked to install an ActiveX, please do so as this program is safe and it can not run without it.
http://www.windowsecurity.com/trojanscan/

Run CCleaner then restart the computer and post a new log in this same thread along with any feedback you have. Let us know how you are running.

Thanks...pskelley
HJT Team

PURGE SYSTEM RESTORE
When you are completely finished with the removal procedure and are satisfied that the threat has been removed follow these instruction:
