Mike, way back when (once upon a time and a very good time it was, too) the Commodore company, a British concern, took the home computing world by storm by making an affordable and programmable home computer (it used BASIC), with a tape recorder- like drive and something like 4K of memory. Their next product had 64K memory ( everyone thought, how will I ever use all that memory?) with a lot of text-based games and some with some really "simple" graphics; it also had a external floppy drive (when floppies were actually floppies at around 5 1/2 inches).
Some of us began with these two great machines.
Cheers,
John
