I had the following on my PC
which were picked up by AVG.
I was trying to remove them and accidentally stopped Combofix after about step 7. I am now left with no desktop or task bar and can only run IE through task manager. I have tried using my recovery disk for XP, but get the message viamraid.sys could not be found. I am totally stuck on what to do next.

I have just had a similar problem and cannot get anything much to come up; no Start button, taskbar etc - just the desktop wallpaper and the cursor. If I go in via Safe Mode with Command Prompt I don't get the command prompt - just a cursor and the four Safe Mode titles.

I was running combofix when it said it was rebooting. After 40 minutes it had not rebooted so I did it thinking it must have got stuck. Now I have this issue.

Can anyone help or is it a case of re-installing the O/S?
