Well after I ahd my system memory card replaced, my computer had to be reformatted to work. So after that, everything was working or so I thought until I tried to play a quicktime file and saw that there was no audio or video. Then I tried windows media player files, nothing. Then a dvd and no sound but i do get a shaky spasm like image in WMP and thats it.
It looks like my drivers were installed properly so I'm not sure what else to check or how to check it.

No sound out of my desktop speakers or headphone jack, everthing else on my puter works just fine, internet, images, programs etc...
My specs
Gateway GT5032
Realtek AC'97 Audio

Thanks for your help in advance.

No error messages?

I'd uninstall the sound drivers and then reinstall or update same.

WMP plays both video and sound files...neither type of file plays properly?

Already tried both things you suggested, neither worked.

WMP won't play files, sound or audio but plays dvd's but image spams and has no sound.

A codec pack is a bit of software that can encode and decode audio and video. I'm using K-lite at the moment. http://www.filehippo.com/download_klite_codec_pack/ if the audio problem still remains, try bringing up the task manager, locate the process and set its priority to high.
Regards,

Alan.
