I've read the old threads on this problem, but I think my new attack is a little different--anyway I've been unsuccessful getting rid of the "bargainbuddy/cashbackbuddy/bullseye..." using Spybot, Ad-Aware, McAfee and operating in Safe Mode. Been struggling for three days now.

Just downloaded "Hijack This" and following is my log:

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!! :flowers:

Print out these instructions and then close all windows including Internet Explorer.

Then I want you to fix some of those entries. Please do the following:

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then click the Fix button:

thank you for your help, grinley...

did as instructed...here is the new log...it looks like a couple of items didn't go away (I saw them after the first removal, so I "Fixed" again on those few items, but they're back again) namely the following:

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
and
O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINNT\svcproc.exe (file missing)

though the computer appears to be getting better

Download killbox here:

KillBox

Unzip the folder to your desktop.

Start Killbox.exe

When it is open, enter C:\WINNT\svcproc.exe into the field labeled "Full path of file to delete".

Select the Delete on reboot option.

Then press the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it.

Your computer will reboot and check to see if the file is gone.

Hi. Please download and install the program Registry Lite from here:

http://www.resplendence.com/reglite

Once it is installed, please double click on the icon that should now be on your desktop. If an icon is not there, then check under programs portion of the Start Menu.

Once it is opened, copy and paste the below line, into the address field of Registrar Lite.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\

And press enter. You will now be presented with new information in the bottom right and left sections and on the right section.

Right click on SvcProc and delete it.

Then,

Print out these instructions and then close all windows including Internet Explorer.

Then I want you to fix some of those entries. Please do the following:

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then click the Fix button:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {00000000-DD60-0064-6EC2-6E0100000000} - (no file)

O23 - Service: tfksprcmrwct - Unknown owner - C:\WINNT\system32\mrwct\tfksprc.exe

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Then delete these files or directories (Do not be concerned if they do not exist)

C:\WINNT\system32\mrwct\
C:\WINNT\system32\abasa5jrp.exe

grinley, thanks again for the help...

followed new instructions...granted, i'm not super techy, but things are definitely looking better from my point of view

able to get rid of everything except the following:
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present

but i'm wondering if it might have anything to do with the "immunization" settings i now have selected in Spybot S&D

anyway here is the new log...

It prob does have to do with spybot, but I am removing it to be safe. You can always immunize later.

Print out these instructions and then close all windows including Internet Explorer.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Then I want you to fix some of those entries. Please do the following:

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then click the Fix button:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tfksprc] C:\WINNT\system32\mrwct\tfksprc.exe
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
Then delete these files or directories (Do not be concerned if they do not exist)

C:\WINNT\system32\mrwct\tfksprc.exe

Reboot your computer to go back to normal mode and post a new log.

Your log is clean! Great job!

Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and reenable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point.

You can find instructions on how to enable and reenable system restore here:

Managing Windows Millenium System Restore

or

Windows XP System Restore Guide

Renable system restore with instructions from tutorial above

Next,

This process will clean out your Temp files and your Temporary Internet Files. Please do both steps:

Step 1:Delete Temp Files
To clean out your temp files, click on Start and then run, and type %temp% and press the ok button.

This should open up the temp directory that your machine uses. Please delete all files that are found there. If you get an error when deleting a file, skip that file and delete all the others. If you had trouble deleting a file, reboot into Safe Mode and follow this step again. You should now be able to delete all the files.

Step 2: Delete Temporary Internet Files
Now I want you to open up Internet Explorer, and click on the Tools menu and then Internet Options. At the General tab, which should be the first tab you are currently on, click on the Delete Files button and put a checkmark in Delete offline content. Then press the OK button. This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes. When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.

Finally, and definitely the MOST IMPORTANT step, click on the following tutorial and follow each step listed there:

Simple and easy ways to keep your computer safe and secure on the Internet

Glad I was able to help.
