hello ! from the start i would like to thank you.
-i got this infection a few hours ago. i killed the process from the task manager, and then deleted it from program files--it at least allowed me to work quitelly ,but when i restarted the computer it reapered ,did all over again.

-- i read ed Kay's topic with Thunder regarding the same problem followed the same steps till runing the combofix and installing the console for windows(did the downloads);

-- i downloaded spybot and used it;

-- and now it asked me to do some modifications and restart -- will do now , it may take some time if idon't manage to reconect to the internet .

--hope for the beast and look forward to your answer . thank you very much!

i'm back finally !!!
think i fixed it ... but something strange hapened : when i open a folder some of files name are blue(new color) the rest remain black as before. i observed that at least some of them remained this way after i opened them during the infection. am i clear ? or smth else is going on?

Hi ddiani

Let's see if we can sort this out for you.

should i run combofix too with restore console?

No, not yet....

Step 1
Please disable AVG AntiSpyware Guard, it can interfere with our fixes.

* Launch AVG Anti-Spyware.
* From the "Status" menu, select "Change state" to inactivate 'Resident Shield' and 'Automatic Updates'.
* Then right click on AVG Anti-Spyware in the system tray and uncheck "Start with Windows".

Please disable Spybot S&Ds TeaTimer protection, for the same reason.
You can enable it again after you're clean.
Open Spybot and click on 'Mode' then click 'Advanced Mode'.
Click on 'Tools' in bottom left hand corner.
Click on the 'System Startup' icon.
Uncheck 'Teatimer' box and/or uncheck 'Resident'.
Then, check next to the computer clock to see if the icon for Spybot is still there.
If it is, right click it and choose 'exit Spybot-S&D Resident'.

Reboot the computer.

Step 2
Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.
alternate download link 1
alternate download link 2
  • Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
  • Double-click on Download_mbam-setup.exe to install the application.
  • When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
  • When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
    • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
    • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Then click Finish.
  • MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue. If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
  • On the Scanner tab:
    • Make sure the "Perform Quick Scan" option is selected.
    • Then click on the Scan button.
  • If asked to select the drives to scan, leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
  • The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
  • When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
  • Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
  • Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
  • Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
  • When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
  • The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.
Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.

Step 3
Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner.
Notes
Java must be installed and enabled for the scan to work.
Disable your computer's antivirus program as leaving it active will cause conflicts
  • Close ALL programs and windows except for your browser
Please go to Online Kaspersky Scan and perform an online antivirus scan.
  • Read through the Requirements and limitations statement and click on the Accept button.
  • You will be prompted to install an application from Kaspersky. Click the Run button. It will start downloading and installing the scanner and virus definitions.
  • When the downloads have finished, the scrolling window will show 'Database is updated. Ready to scan'. Click on the Settings button at the bottom left.
  • Make sure these boxes are checked/ticked. If they are not, please tick them and click on the Save button:
    • Spyware, Adware, Dialers, and other potentially dangerous programs
    • Archives
    • Mail databases
  • Click on My Computer under Scan on the left. OK any warnings from your protection programs.
  • Go for a long walk. Please be patient and let the scanner finish. It is better that you do NOT use the computer while the scan is running. Keep all other programs/windows closed.
  • Once the scan is complete (the 'status' will show complete), click on View Scan Report and any infected objects will be shown.
  • Click on Save Report As... and change the Files of type to Text file (.txt)
  • Name the file KAVScan-ddmmyy before clicking on the Save button. Save the report to a convenient place - for example the Desktop.
  • Please post this log in your next reply.
Note - enable your antivirus program before browsing away from the Kaspersky site.

Go to the Desktop and double-click on the Kaspersky report KAVScan-ddmmyy.txt, it will open in Notepad
Click Edit > Select all then Edit > Copy
Reply to this thread and paste (Ctrl+V) the report.

In your next reply, please submit:
MBAM scan result
Kaspersky scan result
and a new Hjt log

Thanks.

Hi ddiani

should i delete the infected files?

Not all those files are actually a threat.
The ones relating to SmitfraudFix.... are actually legit.
But because of how this program works.... some of it's files are often picked up as malware.

Seems you have run ComboFix in the past..... naughty!
This program should never be run without supervision.

The disturbing line is this:

C:\Documents and Settings\Xp\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Quarantine\QUAR1.29489 Infected: Backdoor.Win32.Rbot.aeu 1

This has been quarantined by MBAM on a previous scan.
But this item is very dangerous:
It runs continuously in the background, providing a backdoor server which allows a remote intruder to gain access and control over the computer via IRC channels.

So in view of this, i must warn you.
If you do any banking or other financial transactions on the PC or it if it contains any other sensitive information, please get to a known clean computer and change all passwords where applicable and it would be wise to contact those same financial institutions to apprise them of your situation.

Though the Trojans have been identified there is no way to be sure your computer can ever again be trusted. Many experts in the security community believe that once infected with this type of Trojan, the best course of action would be a reformat and reinstall of the OS.

For more information read ....Here
If you choose to format and reinstall read...... Here

Should you decide not to follow that advice, we will of course do our best to clean the computer of any infections that we can see but, as I already stated, we can in no way guarantee it to be trustworthy again.

So before we carry on.... i need you to let me know what you want to do.
I have already written a fix if you want to continue... but like i say, this has to be your decision.

Hi ddiani

Welcome back.
As you have stated in your pm to me that you wish to go ahead with the cleaning process... we'll get to work.

Step 1
As you have some old versions of some security programs, we'll remove those 1st and give ourselves a clean start. (most of these programs are constantly updated and may not work as well now).
Please download the OTMoveIt2 by OldTimer.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click OTMoveIt2.exe to run it.
  • You should see a CleanUp! button, press that button,
  • You may get prompted by your firewall that OTMoveIt wants to contact the internet, allow this,
  • A cleanup.txt will be downloaded, a message dialog will ask you if you want to proceed with the cleanup process, click Yes.
  • This will delete all the tools you have downloaded plus itself.
Step 2
Please download FixWareout from one of these mirrors:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
If your firewall gives an alert, (because this tool will download an additional file from the internet), please don't let your firewall block it..... allow it instead.
Then you will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads please post the text that will open (report.txt).

Step 3
Please download ComboFix

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

There are full instructions on how to download and run ComboFix here:
How to use ComboFix
Please follow all the instructions to the letter...(this is very important)

Please ensure that you install the Recovery Console.
If it's not already installed on your machine

Once installed, you should see a blue screen prompt that says:

The Recovery Console was successfully installed.
Posted Image

Please continue as follows:
  • Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

  • Click Yes to allow ComboFix to continue scanning for malware.
Note: Do not mouseclick combofix's window while its running. This may cause it to stall

When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

In your next reply, please submit:
Fixwareout report
ComboFix.txt
and a new Hjt log.

Thanks.

Hi ddiani

PS: i also ran a free internet scan and fix with nod 32antivirus 2 weeks ago , after Kaspersky. i hope it didnt do anything to change the repair process .

Please don't run any extra scans unless i ask for them.... it can cause confusion.

You have a lot of 'Spybot Search & Destroy' lines that are coming up.... file missing!
have you removed this program?
If not... i suggest you install the latest version from here:
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/mirrors/index.html

Step 1
Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these items.
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = about:blank
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - - (no file)

Then close all other windows, browsers etc--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

Reboot your computer to complete the process.

Step 2
Close any open browsers.
Close/disable all anti virus, firewall and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix:

Open Notepad - it must be Notepad, not Wordpad.
Copy the text below in the code box by highlighting all the text and pressing Ctrl+C
Folder::
C:\Program Files\Netcom3 Cleaner
C:\Program Files\Enigma Software Group
Go to the Notepad window and click Edit >> Paste
Then click File >> Save
Name the file "CFScript.txt" (including the quotes)
Save the file to your Desktop

The main ComboFix.exe program should be on your Desktop
Drag the file you just created... CFScript.txt and drop it on the main ComboFix.exe icon
as below.
Posted Image

Now please wait for ComboFix to finish running.

Please Note: Do not mouse click in the combofix window while it is running - this may cause your system to hang/crash

Step 3
You have a file on your system that i'd like you to check for me please. ( it may be nothing... but let's make sure)

Please click this link-->Jotti

When the jotti page has finished loading, click the Browse button and navigate to the following file and click Submit.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\E920C22E51.sys

Please post back the results of the scan in your next post.

If Jotti is busy, try the same at Virustotal: http://www.virustotal.com/

Step 4
Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. A malicious site could render Java content under older, vulnerable versions of Sun's software if the user has not removed them. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 7 and save it to your desktop.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u7...allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Read the License Agreement and then check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation and save the file to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel, double-click on Add/Remove Programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check (highlight) any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6u7-windows-i586-p.exe to install the newest version.
Step 5

Combofix.txt
Jotti scan results
Kaspersky scan results
and a new Hjt log

Thanks

i forgot about spybot in my previous replay. I erased it because it was eating my computer alive  .it stalled for a lot of time each time OS started.

but i had a lot of problems doing that ; it may have remained some left overs ,now, i don't know?

Hi ddiani

i cannot find the file you asked me to check.(C:\WINDOWS\system32\E920C22E51.sys)
on my computer .sorry! -- opened to sugestions! where did it go?

it may well be a 'hidden file'. let's try this:

Make sure that you can see hidden files.
  • Click Start.
  • Click My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known file types.
  • Click OK.
Now try:
Please click this link-->Jotti

If Spybot has been removed from your system, i'll clean up the entries in the next reply.

Thanks.
